Gameweek 1 Summary
Mmm, not the best start in all fantasy formats with my distinct lack of Salah across the board causing a big dent in my quest for a fast start. Everton for me were the surprise package of the weekend and I expect all their assets to be on everyone's radar with a few great fixtures ahead including this coming weekend at home to West Brom who looked defensively shaky in Gameweek 1. Digne, Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin would be topping my list with some others not far behind.
Tottenham started very slowly and it could either go one of two ways with a Jose rocket forcing improvement or the players becoming even more disinterested; it will be an interesting few weeks at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with the likely loan signing of Bale in the offing and I will be avoiding all assets, Doherty aside until the landscape become clearer. Wolves were rock solid and clinical and without European distractions this season could be in with a chance of battling for the top four. Their fixtures from Gameweek 3 are delicious and I will certainly be wildcarding one or two in next week with Saiss and Jimenez quickly jumping to my attention.
Elsewhere Leeds look like they could have some investable players in the coming Gameweeks, Harrison in particular looked very good whilst Ayling had some decent tackling stats which could serve him well for the future. Arsenal's Willian and Gabriel look like very viable, and cheap, options even if their short term fixtures after this weekend are not the best. Southampton's defence looks a little concerning particularly with my teams packed with McCarthy's and even a double up in Sky Fantasy.
Chelsea flattered to deceive a little albeit James was sensational and Werner looked very sharp. Havertz looked a little nervous although I am sure he will bed in and be a great option whilst Leicester and Newcastle could have some interesting options with both having plum fixtures going into the weekend. For me, Barnes and Wilson respectively looked particularly sharp and I expect some returns from them in the coming weeks.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the four teams who didn't play this week look in Gameweek 2; whilst the Manchester clubs have the big names and obvious picks, I think Burnley and Aston Villa also have some potentially interesting fantasy players including Bardsley, Wood, Grealish, Watkins and Konsa.
