Who is the best FPL Double Gameweek 25 captain? Our resident FPL captaincy expert Chris Tan takes a close look at the fixtures, poll and stats breakdown before concluding on his best pick for the armband.
FPL Double Gameweek 24 Recap
The Challengers – Manchester United faltered again, whereas Leicester continue to impress coming back from 1-0 down to shell shock the defending champions. West Ham are throwing their hat back into the mix and the Chelsea machine are undefeated under Tuchel.
The Elite – City continue to exert their dominance and it’s become a question of when they will win the league rather than if. Liverpool should finish top four, however the teams around them will not give ground without a fight.
The Premiums – let’s take a moment to appreciate what an FPL animal Fernandes (£11.5m) is. He’s now played 38 games across two seasons and has racked up 41 attacking returns to average 7.8 points per game. That level of consistency means that he should always be in consideration when it comes to captaincy. Liverpool may be faltering, but Salah (£12.6m) has been steadily racking up the returns with his fourth goal in four games.
Who to target – the sides at the bottom are showing some fight now, West Brom managed to hold Manchester United to a draw and Fulham won. Sheffield United have improved, but are still one of the weaker sides. Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all on a bad run at the moment.
How have we done to date?
Sterling (£11.6m) edges it, however if you only own Gündoğan (£6.0m) he’s a viable alternative. Just keep an eye on the press conferences, as City might be without both Rodrigo and Fernandinho, which might force us to bring back the double pivot and drop Gundo deeper. For those that own Foden (£6.1m) I would be happy to go with him too and these three are my top choices for a City attacker.
Not many own multiple Manchester City midfielders, so hopefully you came away with one of the higher scoring options. Seven was underwhelming for Sterling (£11.6m), Gündoğan’s (£6.1m) 19-pointer was achieved in just a single game and Foden (£6.1m) recorded a respectable 11.
Fernandes (£11.5m) just did what he always does and Pope (£5.6m) achieved his floor.
This is a first for the article, I’ve never tipped a goalkeeper before, but if he’s confirmed injury free then Pope (£5.5m) is an excellent shout. If Burnley keep a CS then save points are inevitable and bonus. Assuming they just keep a single CS then his floor is 10 points, which is ridiculous.
FPL Double Gameweek 25 Captain - The Fixtures
Gameweek 25 fixtures are the reverse fixtures of Gameweek 5 (the additional fixture is the games postponed due to COVID), here’s what happened last time:
Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m), Mané (£11.8m) and Salah (£12.6m) all scored in the fiercely contested derby. Ings (£8.4m) scored, but it was Werner (£9.2m) that stole the show with a brace and an assist. Sterling (£11.6m) scored the solitary goal for City. Fernandes (£11.5m) picked up his usual 11 point return. Lastly, Kane (£11.0m) and Son (£9.6m) came away with 16 and 13 points each. If Gameweek 25 is anything like this, it will be a high scoring week.

Who do my Twitter followers think is the best FPL Gameweek 25 captain?
Old Hunting Ground – do any of the likely lads have a good record vs their opposition?
- Fernandes (£11.5m) has only played them once, but he recorded a goal and assist.
- Kane (£11.0m) has a phenomenal record against West Ham, although eight of his goals have come at home.
- Son (£9.6m) similar to Kane, the bulk of his returns have come at home so far.
- Ings (£8.4m) hasn’t played against Leeds yet, two in three against Chelsea is respectable though (albeit that was against Lampard’s Chelsea).
