<h2 style="text-align: left;">Who are the Best FPL Defenders For Gameweek 23?</h2>
<h3>Double Gameweek 23 Possibility</h3>
At the time of writing, no fixtures have been rearranged for Gameweek 23. Aston Villa are the likeliest to get a Double Gameweek and they will play one of Burnley or Leeds United which means one of them would also have a Double Gameweek if the rearrangement transpires.

<h3>Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) – Manchester City</h3>
Fixture: Southampton (a)
Manchester City have now kept 13 clean sheets (1st) and Joao Cancelo continues to rack up attacking returns with one goal and eight assists. The Portuguese is the third highest scoring player in the game.
He has 11 Shots in the Box with an xG of 3.33 (1st amongst defenders) and he has also created 28 Chances with an xA of 3.61 (3rd amongst defenders).
City come up against Southampton (a) in Gameweek 23. The Saints have scored 25 goals (13th) with an xG of 27.6 (10th). They are around mid-table when it comes to attack.
However, they come up against the strongest defence in the league in Man City this week. The Citizens have only conceded 13 goals (1st) with an xGC of 15.7 (1st). They are the clear best defence in the league and Southampton are going to have a very tough time breaking them down.
Pep Guardiola’s men are also the favourites to keep a clean sheet (50%) in Gameweek 23 according to the bookmakers.
Cancelo is having a fantastic season with City and has shown just how attacking he is. He is capable of attacking and defensive returns against any opposition with how strong Man City are defensively and how forward he gets.
He has the most final third passes (648) in the league amongst all players.
Our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool</a> has Cancelo at 1st for predicted points (5.6) amongst defenders for Gameweek 23 also.

<h3>Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) – Arsenal</h3>
Fixture: Burnley (H)
Despite only starting 14 games this season Kieran Tierney is the second highest scoring Arsenal defender. He has one goal and three assists with 7 Shots in the Box and an xG of 0.93. He has also created 13 Chances with an xA of 0.76.
The North London club have a great fixture in Gameweek 23 as they welcome Burnley to the Emirates. The Clarets sit rock bottom of the league having only scored 16 goals (19th) with an xG of 18.0 (20th).
Arsenal have now kept nine clean sheets (3rd) conceding 25 goals (7th) with an xGC of 28.9 (8th). They are very much improving defensively as the season goes on.
The Gunners are joint favourites to keep a clean sheet (50%) this week and also fourth favourites to score 2.5+ goals (27%) which bodes well for Tierney at both ends of the pitch.
I really like their chances of keeping a clean sheet this week especially seeing as Chris Wood has made a move to Newcastle United and Maxwell Cornet is away competing in the AFCON.
Kieran Tierney is the one most likely to pick up attacking returns in that backline and if he can manage to stay fit he will get plenty more over the season.

<h3>Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.3m) – Wolves</h3>
Fixture: Brentford (a)
Rayan Ait Nouri is looking like a fantastic option. He is priced at only £4.3m and has started every game (when fit) since Gameweek 9. He has three assists with 5 Shots in the Box and an xG of 0.45 and has also created 13 Chances with an xA of 1.67 (1st amongst Wolves defenders). He has the highest xA amongst the Wolves defence despite only starting 10 games.
He seems to have nailed down that left-back spot at the expense of Marcal.
Wolves come up against Brentford in Gameweek 23. The Bees have scored 24 goals (14th) with an xG of 26.1 (12th). They have been mediocre when it comes to attack and this will be a tough task for them looking at Wolves' defence.
Bruno Lage's team have only conceded 15 goals (2nd) with an xGC of 26.9 (7th). The West Midlands club have always had a strong backline ever since their promotion to the Premier League and this season is no different.
They don’t concede many chances at all and despite being away from home, will still be favourites in this game.
The bookmakers also have them as the fourth favourites to keep a clean sheet (40%) for Gameweek 23.
Ait Nouri has a good fixture this week and he is the most attacking defender for Wolves and his price of only £4.3m makes him a fantastic value asset. He will continue to pick up clean sheets and attacking returns this season judging by his impressive underlying numbers.

<h3>Trent Alexander Arnold (£8.4m) – Liverpool</h3>
Fixture: Crystal Palace (a)
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best FPL defender for Gameweek 23 as he continues to have a phenomenal season, picking up his seventh double-digit haul last week. He now has two goals and 10 assists with 10 Shots in the box and an xG of 2.08. The right-back has also created 60 Chances (1st overall) with an xA of 7.18 (2nd overall).
He is quite simply a must-have FPL asset and is producing attacking numbers a midfielder would be proud of.
Liverpool come up against Crystal Palace (a) in Gameweek 23. The Eagles have been okay going forward, scoring 30 goals (8th) with an xG of 27.9 (8th).
However, they do come up against a very formidable defence this week. The Reds have conceded 18 goals (3rd) with an xGC of 21.3 (3rd) and have been amongst the top three defences in the league all season.
Liverpool are also the third favourites to keep a clean sheet (42%) in Gameweek 23 and are the second favourites to score 2.5+ goals (37%). Given how attacking Trent is this will be music to the ears of his owners.
He simply has so many avenues to points through clean sheets, goals, assists and he is on <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/?post_type=post&amp;p=11173">corners and free-kicks</a>.
The Liverpudlian is also the highest predicted scoring defender (5.6 points) for Gameweek 23 according to our <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/predictions/">Points Prediction Tool.</a>

<h3>Andrew Robertson (7.0m) – Liverpool</h3>
Fixture: Crystal Palace (a)
The Scottish left-back is enjoying a better second half of the season. He has one goal and five assists since Gameweek 13 and is looking like a great option right now.
Over the season he has 4 Shots in the Box with an xG of 1.05 and has created 35 Chances with an xA of 3.63 (2nd amongst defenders).
Liverpool have a good fixture in Gameweek 23 against Palace and Robertson is another one who has a strong chance of attacking and defensive returns, much like his counterpart. His attacking stats and output have clearly increased in the second half of the season.
From Gameweek 1 to 13 (9 games) he had an xG of 0.26 and created 18 Chances with an xA of 1.76. Whereas from Gameweek 13 to 22 (7 games) he has an xG of 0.80 and created 23 Chances with an xA of 2.76.
It’s clear to see the improvement in underlying numbers in the second half of the season especially playing fewer games also.
