Who are the Best FPL Midfielders For Gameweek 4?
Heung-Min Son (£10.0m) – Spurs
Fixture: Crystal Palace (a)
Son has started the season well having notched two goals in his first three games. He has had 4 Shots on Target, 4 Shots in the Box and an xG of 0.73. Although he has overpermed on his xG this is nothing new for the South Korean who has proven over his career to be a lethal finisher.
Spurs come up against Crystal Palace (a) in Gameweek 4 who have conceded 5 goals and an xGC of 3.6 (10th) in their opening three games. They have also conceded 23 Shots in the Box and 13 Shots on Target.
Tottenham have only managed 3 goals in their first three but they have had an xG of 4.3 which tells us they should have scored more. They had 8 Shots on Target (2nd) and 9 Shots in the Box (6th) against Watford last Gameweek alone with an xG of 1.5.
Although the North London club don’t score as many goals as other top teams such as Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United we know that when they do score Son or teammate Harry Kane (£12.3m) are more than likely to be involved, therefore are fine FPL assets as their Goal Involvement is high.
Heung-Min Son is also on corners and some free kicks so is one of the players who has many avenues to points and with 11 and 13 assists in his last two seasons we know he can assist as well as score.
Furthermore, he is the ranked as the fourth-highest predicted points scorer (6.4) according to our Prediction Tool for Gameweek 4 amongst midfielders.
Mason Greenwood (£7.6m) – Manchester United
Fixture: Newcastle United (H)
Mason Greenwood has had a dream start to the new season scoring a goal in each of his opening three fixtures. He has racked up 26 points and sits as the second highest scoring midfielder in the game.
He has managed this with 4 Shots on Target, 7 Shots in the Box, an xG of 0.97 and an xA of 0.71.
Manchester United face a very nice fixture in Gameweek 4 in the form of Newcastle United at home. Steve Bruce’s men have lost two of their first three games and have conceded 8 goals (18th) in the process. They have also conceded 30 Shots in the Box (16th), 17 Shots on Target (18th), 11 Big Chances (19th) and an xGC of 7.7 (19th).
The Red Devils have scored seven goals (2nd), with 30 Shots in the Box (5th), and xG of 4.9 (5th) and will no doubt be one of the top scoring teams again this season.
Greenwood looks great value for his price just now and is the second-highest predicted points scorer (6.5) amongst midfielders according to our Points Prediction Tool and at 62% to return anytime.
Also according to the bookmakers Man United are the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (42%) for Gameweek 4.
Said Benrahma (£6.4m) – West Ham United
Fixture: Southampton (a)
The West Ham midfielder registered his first blank of the season in Gameweek 3 after back-to-back double-digit hauls in his first two games. He has shown to be great value at a starting price of only £6.0m and has far managed 4 Shots on Target, 4 Shots in the Box with an xG of 1.29. He has also created 4 Chances with an xG of 0.74. He will score and assist well over the season.
West Ham have been very attacking in their opening games and scored 10 goals (1st), with 25 Shots on Target (2nd), 38 Shots in the Box (2nd), 11 Big Chances (2nd) and an xG of 7.4 (3rd).
The Hammers come up against Southampton (a) in Gameweek 4 who haven’t exactly been watertight at the back. They have conceded six goals (17th), with an xGC of 5.3 (15th) with 29 Shots in the Box conceded (15th), 15 Shots on Target (15th) and 8 Big Chances (18th).
Both teams have actually been porous in defence so far but have good attacking stats so I can see this being another high scoring game.
I like Benrahma again for this fixture due to his stats, and also his link-up play with Michail Antonio (£7.9m). They seem to be playing well with each other and have already been involved in three goals together this season and were again linking up well against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 3.
He is also at 46% for anytime returns according to our Points Prediction Tool.
Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) – Liverpool
Fixture: Leeds United (a)
The Egyptian has got off to a typically good start to the season scoring two goals and two assists in his opening three fixtures, and unsurprisingly he is currently the highest scoring midfielder with 30 points.
His stats have been impressive as usual also with 10 Shots in the Box (3rd), 6 Shots on Target (2nd) and an xG of 1.72 (4th). He has also created 8 Chances and 2 Big Chances with an xA of 1.43 (4th).
Liverpool have a very tasty fixture in Gameweek 4 from an attacking viewpoint as they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United.
The Whites have already conceded 8 goals (18th), with 30 Shots in the Box conceded (16th), 19 Shots on Target (20th) and xGC of 5.8 (17th).
Marcelo Bielsa’s men haven’t changed their approach at all this season and look to attack every game and this looks like a prime game for goals. Both teams have great attackers and play good attacking football.
Mohamed Salah is the second highest predicted points scorer (7.0) for Gameweek 4 according to our Points Prediction Tool and Liverpool are also second favourites to score 2.5+ goals (37%) according to the bookmakers.
With Salah on penalties and on his usual red hot form, he will be one of the most captained players this Gameweek for sure.
Mason Mount (£7.5m) – Chelsea
Fixture: Aston Villa (H)
Mason Mount has enumerated two assists in his first three games. He has managed 2 Shots on Target, with 2 in the Box and an xG of 0.40. He has also created 5 Chances, 3 Big Chances (1st) and an xA of 1.43 (4th) and is on corners and free-kicks.
He is the most nailed-on midfielder for Chelsea and the Blues have a very favourable fixture as they play Aston Villa at home.
Villa have conceded 23 Shots in the Box (13th), 10 Shots on Target and an xGC of 3.2 despite playing Watford (a), Newcastle (H) and Brentford (H).
Chelsea have a really strong attack and with the signing of Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m), Mount is sure to rack up more assists this season as they now have a forward who can score around 20 league goals a season.
The Blues have also racked up 26 Shots in the Box (7th), 14 Shots on Target (7th) and an xG of 4.7 (6th). Considering they have played Arsenal (a) and Liverpool (a) with 10 men for most of the game they have been impressive.
Mason Mount is also at 49% for anytime returns this Gameweek and Chelsea are also the third favourites to score 2.5+ goals (35%) according to the bookmakers.
