Introduction

As some of you may know I was fortunate enough to win Dream Team last season and I took a lot from the experience. Part of my winning strategy was understanding which players score well in this particular format as some of them tend to go under the radar. The Dream Team ratings come from WhoScored.com.

Would you believe me if I told you Marcus Rashford finished as the fourth highest scoring player in the whole game or Sadio Mane had more than twice as many Star Man awards as Mohamed Salah? They did and this is where understanding the scoring matrix and the players that suit it can take your Dream Team ranking up a notch.

Let's get into it.

Star Man Count - 5 or Above

There are certain players that the WhoScored scoring matrix favours with some being fairly obvious (Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes etc) but there are some surprises in there with Sadio Mane (£5.5m) picking up 10 Star Man awards despite a 'poor' season by his standards whilst Nicolas Pepe (£4.0m) scooped eight.

Jorginho (£3.0m) was another that surprised me but is on penalties and could be worth a look when Chelsea's fixtures improve.

Riyad Mahrez (£5.0m) and Joao Cancelo (£5.0m) have had decent pre-seasons and with six Star Man awards apiece in their lockers from last season, look good picks to potentially target early on.

Highest Rated Players (Premier League)

Here are the top ten rated Premier League players overall from WhoScored (who provide the Dream Team ratings).

Again a couple of surprises with Tomas Soucek (£3.5m) scoring very well and Mane there again. Interestingly, Mohamed Salah is nowhere to be seen in either table so far!

Wherever Jack Grealish (£4.5m) starts the season he should be a Dream Team beast whilst Mason Mount (£4.5m) looks one to consider as a long term pick when Chelsea's fixtures improve.

Highest Rated Players (Championship)

Here are the top ten rated Championship players overall from WhoScored (who provide the Dream Team ratings).

The two stand-outs for me here are Emi Buendia (£3.0m - now at Aston Villa) and Ivan Toney (£2.5m) who both averaged very high ratings in the Championship. Whether this translates to the Premier League remains to be seen but they are certainly in my thoughts.
