Essential Chelsea FPL Stats | Attacking Numbers

I must start with Timo Werner (£9.0m). Famous for scoring only six goals while having an expected goals of 11.45, Timo performed as expected when it comes to his expected goal involvement (xGI) (14.70).

If the xG Delta was low, then the expected assists (xA) Delta must be high. True enough, Werner achieved eight assists last season with an xA of only 3.25.

Having Romelu Lukaku as a target will relieve some pressure from Werner. He also has the potential to increase Werner’s assist tally significantly.

The potential impact of going from Turtle-Head-Timo to Lukaku cannot be understated. This is a team with the 2nd highest cross completion (24.8%) and the joint 2nd most goals from corners (10).

Chelsea boast the 2nd highest pass completion in the final third (84.7%), leading to the 4th most big chances (94) and the 3rd most shots in the box (365). All good stats for Lukaku, who has slightly outperformed his xGI/90 in the 19/20 (0.77), and in 20/21 (0.95) seasons.

Lukaku scored 47 goals in two seasons in the Serie A. Him coming to a side that generated the 3rd highest xG last season is very exciting.

OPTA Stats for Fantasy Football

Essential Chelsea FPL Stats | Defensive Numbers

Defensively, Chelsea do not concede much because they do not allow penetration into the box.

The 2nd fewest big chances conceded, and the lowest xG conceded, combined with the 3rd fewest blocks, paint a picture of opposing teams resorting to low percentage perimeter attempts on goal.

The real coup for Chelsea is that they force opponents to play a perimeter game, yet they conceded the fewest headed shots (41). That’s simply not an avenue on which opposing teams can rely.

I love Chelsea’s attackers on the right side in their first match against Crystal Palace, but I believe the left side (Ben Chilwell (£6.0m) and Timo) will be generally further forward this season.
