Who are the best Fantasy Premier League midfielders to own for Blank Gameweek 18? 4-time top 1k finisher Abdul Rehman uses the Hub's OPTA, Prediction, Comparison and Fixture tools to find the best FPL budget and premium midfielders for our FPL teams.
Heung-Min Son (£9.7m) – Spurs
Fixture: Aston Villa (a)
The South Korean returned another double-digit haul (13 points) last Gameweek with a goal and an assist. This takes his total to 12 goals and five assists and cements his place as the games top points scorer (132). He has 28 Shots, 17 Shots on Target, 19 Shots in the Box and 13 Big Chances.
Spurs are also back in form with their comprehensive win over Leeds United last week after a blip of four games without a win. And after two blanks in a row, Son is back in the points now too.
Tottenham are up against Aston Villa in Blank Gameweek 18 which isn’t the easiest of fixtures but with the limited games this week and the form that Son is showing he is one of the best midfield options. Spurs as a team have had 75 Shots in on Target (7th), 117 Shots in the Box (12th), and 40 Big Chances (5th) and have scored 29 goals (6th). They and the Korean have been so clinical in attack a long with Harry Kane (£11.0m) who seems to have developed and telepathic relationship with his teammate. Kane has assisted nine of Son's 12 goals this season and Son has returned the favour assisting his teammate four times for his 10 goals. They have combined for a total of 13 goals which is incredible at this stage of the season. It’s clear when both play they both make each other a much better fantasy option.
Our Points Prediction Tool has him at 48% to return anytime for Blank Gameweek 18 and he also now has seven double-digit hauls and I think we can now safely put him in the same bracket as the likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) and Bruno Fernandes (£11.3m).
Bruno Fernandes (£11.3m) – Manchester United
Fixture: Burnley (a)
The Portuguese has had a phenomenal season and now sits on 11 goals and eight assists and is the second highest points scorer (130). He sits only two points behind Son despite playing a game less. His stats have also been insane with 51 Shots (4th), 22 Shots on Target (5th), 22 Shots in the Box, and 12 Big Chances (7th). He has also created 52 Chances (2nd) and 10 Big Chances (3rd).
He is no doubt one of the best options in the game and is a must have in our teams. Manchester United's opponents in Blank Gameweek 18 are Burnley who shouldn’t be a problem for them with the form they are showing. They have been one of the best attacking teams in the league scoring 33 goals (2nd). They have also had 94 Shots on Target (2nd), 140 Shots in the Box (8th) and 45 Big Chances (2nd). Their xG is also second best only to Liverpool at 32.27.
They are on a run of 10 games unbeaten scoring 24 goals in that period (1st). Burnley however have conceded a total of 209 Shots (16th), 132 Shots in the Box (14th), and 73 Shots on Target (15th). And that’s with them only playing 15 games when most of the teams in the league have played 17.
With the form Bruno and Manchester United are showing he will no doubt be one of the top captaincy contenders this Gameweek. He has the most double-digit hauls so far with eight and his stats are incredible. Our Points Prediction Tool has him at 60% for anytime returns and deservedly so. He is also on penalties for a team that seem to get a lot of them. They have now received six which is the second-most in the league.
Bukayo Saka (£5.3m) – Arsenal
Fixture: Crystal Palace (H)
The 19-year old midfielder has been in great form recently picking up two goals and two assists in his last three games. No midfielder has scored more points in that period and at a cut price of only £5.3m Saka looks a great option for Blank Gameweek 18 especially for those using their Free Hit chip. He has also started the last eight games in the league playing 90 minutes in six of those. He has had 8 Shots (4th), 3 Shots on Target (5th), and 7 Shots in the Box (3rd) while also created 4 Chances and 1 Big Chance.
His upturn in form has coincided with Arsenal's who have also who have won their last three games in which they have scored eight goals (1st). The Gunners are finally looking like the Arsenal of old and their stats show that this is no fluke. In the last three, they have had 47 Shots (1st), 22 Shots on Target (1st), 38 Shots in the Box (1st) and 9 Big Chances (3rd).
The North London club face Crystal Palace in Blank Gameweek 18 who have been very suspect defensively this season. They have conceded 29 goals (18th) and also conceded 227 Shots (17th), 142 Shots in the Box (17th), 79 Shots on Target (16th) and 38 Big Chances (17th).
At only £5.3m, Saka is not only a good option for Blank Gameweek 18 but also a great enabler for those using the Free Hit chip. Arsenal seemed to have turned a corner now and will be full of confidence and can carry that into a great fixture against a team who haven’t really been at the races this season.
Anwar El-Ghazi (£5.8m) – Aston Villa
Fixture: Spurs (H)
Anwar El-Ghazi has quickly established himself as a great fantasy option and also a sure starter for Aston Villa. Since Gameweek 13 he has started every game and has scored four goals (1st) in that time and is putting up some of the best stats in the league. He has 26 Shots (1st), 15 Shots on Target (1st), 14 Shots in the Box (3rd) and 5 Big Chances (1st). On top of that he has also created 9 Chances and 1 Big Chance.
Aston Villa play Spurs at home in Blank Gameweek 18. The Villains have been fantastic this season and are genuine contenders for the top 6. Their stats this season show that they are one of the best attacking sides in the league. In Only 15 games they have had 239 Shots (3rd), 87 Shots on Target (5th), 165 Shots in the Box (3rd) and 43 Big Chances (3rd). They have also scored 29 goals (6th). Considering most teams in the league have played two more games than them its even more impressive.
The Villa midfielder is thriving this season and his attacking stats and output have really put him on the map FPL wise. With the amount of chances he is getting especially in the box he is another great option going for Blank Gameweek 18 and also going forward as Villa also have a double Gameweek in 19. The Villa man is also on penalties.
Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m) – Manchester City
Fixture: Brighton (H)
After a series of underwhelming scores, the Belgian returned a double-digit haul last Gameweek (13 points) with a goal and an assist. He had been threatening this for a while as his stats showed he was massively underperforming. In total, he has 49 Shots, 14 Shots on Target, 24 Shots in the Box and 9 Big Chances while creating 45 Chances (3rd) and 14 Big Chances (1st).
Manchester City face Brighton at home in Gameweek 18 and this looks to be the standout fixture this week. The Seagulls have conceded 28 goals (17th) and sit 17th in the league, only three points off the drop zone.
Although the Blues haven’t been the same attacking force this season as previous they have still been winning games and have shown they can turn it on at any given moment. They showed this last week beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge who have one of the best defensive numbers in the league. City have had 234 Shots (4th), 80 Shots on Target (6th), 149 Shots in the Box (5th) and 45 Big Chances (2nd) which still puts them easily in the top five for attacking numbers.
Despite Kevin De Bruyne’s underperformance this season he still has three goals and eight assists and with the fixtures City have coming up he is sure to add to that. He starts off with a plum home game to Brighton and then his next five are Crystal Palace (H), Aston Villa (H), West Brom (a), Sheffield United (H) and Burnley (a). They also have a double Gameweek in 19 which makes him a must really.
He has a 67% chance to return anytime according to our Points Prediction Tool which is the highest among midfielders and the maestro is also on penalties. He will most likely be the most captained for Blank Gameweek 18 also.
