Gameweek 9 Review – FPL Strategy

An excellent week for the team with a huge score of 109 points. This takes us from 68k to 18k!

Both Mason Mount (£7.5m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) secured hattricks in a crazy week of FPL!

The Data – FPL Gameweek 10 Strategy

Goalkeepers

GK FPL Points Conceded/Scored and the next five fixtures according to FPL Points Conceded

As we can see, Norwich have given up the most FPL Points to opposition Goalkeepers so farBurnley, Southampton, Wolves and Arsenal make up the remaining five.

Chelsea top the table for FPL Points scored at the Goalkeeper position so far, with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker (£6m) close behind.

Illan Meslier (£5m) can hopefully keep a clean sheet against Norwich this week, after we picked him over the likes of David Raya (£4.6m) and Vicente Guaita (£4.5m).

Defenders

fpl gameweek 10 strategy

Defender FPL Points Conceded/Scored and the next five fixtures according to FPL Points Conceded

No surprises in the Points Scored table, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City topping the scoring already.

In fact, Chelsea are a whopping 115 points clear of Liverpool in second place.

This is mainly due to the attacking exploits of their full backs. The risk there is the rotation, but if you’ve got a good bench, it could be worth the risk.

Tino Livramento (£4.4m) has been in sensational form for Southampton, and they have a couple of decent fixtures in their next three games. You could even start him without worrying too much about it.

Brighton, Aston Villa and Brentford make up the top scoring defensive units. As expected, Norwich sit bottom of the table for points conceded by some distance as they continue to be the whipping boys of the league.

Midfielders

Midfielder FPL Points Conceded/Scored and the next five fixtures according to FPL Points Conceded

The Midfield Table shows Liverpool clear at the top for most FPL Points scored, mainly due to Mohammed Salah (£12.9m) and his red hot start.

Salah is averaging just under 12 points per game so far, which would total 451 points over the season!

There will be blanks from time to time, but it would be a brave man to place the armband elsewhere anytime soon.

Man City, Man United, Everton and West Ham make up the top five in terms of Points Scored.

The Toffees scored even more returns with Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.6m), Andros Townsend (£5.5m) (as we mentioned last week) and Demarai Gray (£5.8m).

As mentioned last week, the loss of Doucoure has potentially affected Everton as they collapsed at home to Watford.

Is now the time to move away from their midfielders?

The one to maybe hold onto for a little longer is Townsend. He is potentially still on penalties and is putting up reasonable numbers in the sub £6m category of midfielders.

Norwich have conceded the most FPL Points to opposition Midfield units so far, overtaking Burnley this week due to an absolute mauling from Chelsea.

Only Kai Havertz (£8.1m), who was both largely transferred in and largely captained this week when Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) got injured, didn’t produce a return against The Canaries.

Mason Mount (£7.5m), who we mentioned last week as having decent fixtures for The Metric Team, took advantage of this one with a hattrick, an assist and max bonus.

Leeds, Newcastle and Watford make up the five teams worth targeting.

Brentford now come up against three of the five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition midfield units.

This bodes well for the likes of Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m) provided he is fit to play, after being substituted against Leicester.

Forwards

fpl gameweek 10 strategy

Forward FPL Points Conceded/Scored and then the next five fixtures according to FPL Points Conceded

Watford, Leicester, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Wolves make up the top five teams with Forwards scoring the most FPL Points so far.

A lot of these teams play two up top each week, which can dilute it slightly. Looking at individuals, Jamie Vardy (£10.6m) and Michail Antonio (£8.1m) are level on 57 points.

Vardy came off at half time against Brentford with a niggle, but there’s optimism he will play against Arsenal.

Newcastle, Everton, Watford, Crystal Palace and Leeds make up the five teams conceding the most FPL Points to opposition Forwards.

It’s interesting to see three of the five teams feature in both points scored and points conceded tables, indicating strength in attack yet leakiness at the back!

After suggesting a punt on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.9m) last week, he got his goal but it was a rebound from a penalty Emiliano Martinez had saved.

With Watford and Newcastle on the horizon, he is an interesting differential. I also like the look of Ivan Toney’s (£6.5m) fixtures over the next four weeks.

Adam Armstrong (£6m) has been inexplicably dropped since we picked him up on the Wildcard, so he is potentially on the “Out” list for us this week.

Home and Away Points Scored and Conceded Tables

fpl gameweek 10 strategy

Total FPL Points Scored and Conceded and also on a Points Per Game Basis

We see here that the teams scoring the most FPL Points are also conceding the least!

These tables may give us an early indication about final standings in the league. We see Arsenal in mid table for FPL Points Scored but they’ve conceded the fourth most FPL Points so far!

The Data Split into Home and Away Tables

FPL Points Conceded and Scored split into Home and Away tables

The teams performing badly at home according to total FPL Points Conceded are Man United, Brentford, Brighton, Watford and Norwich.

However, United, Brentford and Brighton have all played five games at home.

The teams performing badly away from home according to total FPL Points Conceded are Norwich, Burnley, Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham.

Of these five, Arsenal have played four games whereas the rest have played five which is concerning for the Gunners.

The teams performing well at home according to total FPL Points Scored are Chelsea, Man City, Everton, Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

Man City and Liverpool both make this table despite only playing four of their nine games at home so far.

The teams performing well away from home according to total FPL Points Scored are Liverpool, Chelsea, Wolves, Man City and West Ham.

Home and Away Data – Points Per Game Basis

The Home and Away table on a Points Per Game Basis

To give the Home and Away table a bit of fairness, we also do it on a Points Per Game (PPG) Basis.

The teams performing badly at home according to total FPL Points Conceded per game are Watford, Norwich, Wolves, Man United and Burnley. These are three of the five teams mentioned previously.

On the other hand, Norwich, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Leeds are performing badly away from home. Once again, these are three of the five teams alluded to earlier.

The teams performing well at home according to total FPL Points Scored in respect of PPG are Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Spurs, with City and Chelsea absolutely dominating in their home fixtures.

The teams performing well away from home according to total FPL Points Scored in respect of PPG are Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham, Brighton and Wolves.

These are four of the five teams mentioned before and we also see Man City drop out here which is rather surprising.

Takings from this are that you can target Norwich and Burnley both home and away and that Liverpool and Chelsea assets are dependable anywhere.

Man City appear to dominate specifically at home, so runs of home games might be worth targeting.

FPL Gameweek 10 Team

So after that deep dive into the data, here is the lineup, as it stands, for Gameweek 10:

fpl gameweek 10 strategy

The Gameweek 10 Bus Team

I’m pretty happy with the team as it stands, subject to Bryan Mbeumo (£5.6m) being passed fit to play against Burnley.

The fact that Adam Armstrong (£6m) is now no longer a sure starter is a concern. With £5.8m in the bank, we have plenty of options if we want to upgrade him.

Transfers – FPL Gameweek 10 Strategy

As it stands, I’m tempted to roll the transfer this week. We have a couple of bench options, but let’s see if we can get any team news before the deadline.

Captaincy – FPL Gameweek 10 Strategy

Not overthinking this one. Salah will be our captain, with either Michail Antonio or Ivan Toney being our vice captain.

Conclusion – FPL Gameweek 10 Strategy

Well there we have it. As always, there is a lot to think about ahead of the weekend. I hope you’ve found this interesting and it would be great to hear your thoughts on it!
