<p>Wow it’s been months since I’ve thought about FPL and then once the fixtures were announced it was like I’d never been away! I’ve spent the past week fully immersing myself in articles, podcasts and Twitter to try and get back up to speed. The obsession is well and truly back and my head has been overloaded. This is very much like pre-season where we’re reliant on historic data with no indication of form and hazy team news. I do believe that we’re in a slightly better situation though, as we at least have league position to gage motivation and reasonable assumptions can be made regarding starting line ups.</p>
<p>This week there’s no point recapping any previous games, we’ve got a blank slate and all we can do is analyse the information that is available.</p>

<h3><strong>How have we done to date?</strong></h3>
<p>I did an analysis of my picks over the season to date to compare with the top poll choice:</p>

<p><strong>Gameweek 30+ fixtures are the reverse of Gameweeks 15 and 17, here’s what happened last time:</strong></p>

<p>Against Villa<strong> - Fleck</strong> bagged a brace with <strong>Lundstram</strong> picking up a Clean Sheet (CS) and assist, and both coming away with a double-digit return. Will lightning strike twice? Surprisingly they had a much tougher time against Newcastle, however Newcastle are eight points clear from safety now and they might not play with the same determination.</p>
<p>Villa didn’t really do much against Chelsea either, but if they win their game in hand they will get out of the relegation zone and they will be seriously motivated. <strong>Abraham</strong> picked up 12 points against his former loan side and is someone I am considering.</p>
<p>Against Arsenal <strong>- De Bruyne</strong> hauled with two goals and an assist, <strong>Sterling</strong> scored and <strong>Jesus</strong> got an assist. Interestingly Jesus also picked up brace against Burnley, <strong>Mahrez</strong> scored off the bench and the two <strong>Silvas</strong> got double assists. <strong>Aguero</strong> was injured at the time and this illustrates how difficult it is to predict who’s going to pick up the points for City. They will score goals though.</p>
<p>The only thing worth noting from the Arsenal loss to Brighton is that <strong>Leno</strong> picked up seven saves and is probably a shoe in for my team.</p>
<p>Several will be parking their Liverpool assets this week but this score line is a stark reminder of what could happen. <strong>Mane</strong> picked up 15 points here.</p>

<h3><strong>Old Hunting Ground – do any of the likely lads have a good history vs their opposition?</strong></h3>

<p><strong>Jesus</strong> – hasn’t played many fixtures, but you can’t argue with that record.</p>
<p><strong>Aguero –</strong> he has some pedigree doesn’t he, it’s hard to look past him.</p>
<p><strong>B.Silva</strong> – for those that can’t stretch to Sterling he offers a lot of potential and has shown previously that he’s more than capable of hauling from the bench.</p>
<p><strong>D.Silva</strong> – he isn’t as explosive as B.Silva and he’s a lot older but it is his final season, the league is over and he might get his swansong.</p>
<p><strong>De Bruyne</strong> – apart from the last game against Arsenal these haven’t historically been good fixtures for him.</p>
<p><strong>Sterling</strong> – Burnley are a bit of a bogey team for him but without the crowd getting on his back we might see a different player.</p>
<p><strong>Mahrez</strong> – hasn’t really been given many opportunities yet by Pep, but he has shown what he can do this season and he has a decent record against these sides with Leicester.</p>
<p><strong>Aubameyang </strong>– these fixtures aren’t ideal for him, if you’re selecting him it’s mainly for the Brighton game.</p>
<p><strong>Grealish</strong> – I wouldn’t look too much into these stats for him. Ultimately he’s guaranteed to play close to 180 minutes, he’s the talisman and Villa desperately need points.</p>

<p>These stats are pulled from the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/">Fantasy Football Hub OPTA Stats tool</a> that is available to all members to help you analyse the players and teams.</p>
<p><strong>I</strong> <strong>have pulled data from the last four Gameweeks and displayed them as ‘per 90 mins’. This is to provide an overview of how things were prior to lockdown and to take account of the fact that a lot of players will have reduced minutes with five substitutions allowed. </strong>Please note that was over three months ago and we can’t expect things to be the same.</p>
