Who's the best Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 34+ captain? Our resident FPL captaincy expert Chris Tan takes a close look at the fixtures, poll and stats breakdown before concluding on his best pick for the armband.
FPL Gameweek 33+ Captain Recap
Well done if you captained Bruno, Greenwood or Martial; Man United was definitely the best fixture and you would have made decent gains against those that selected Salah or Mane.
What have we learnt?
Patience – Bruno and Richarlison blanked last week, so players were quick to ditch them and they were punished. Similarly, Nick Pope was sold en masse after the City thrashing but then he picked up nine and 10 points in his last two games. Most will have six transfers left for the season, use them wisely.
Differentials – a few players are starting to grab my attention. Greenwood (4.4m) is only owned by 12.6% of the game with great fixtures and he looks to have nailed that starting position. Only 2.2% own Saint-Maximin (5.5m); he’s recorded three double figure hauls in his last four games, it’s time to pay attention although his manager has indicated he will likely be rested midweek. If West Ham are going to survive they’re relying on the 0.8% owned Antonio (6.9m) to save them. He plays 90 minutes every game, he’s classed as a midfielder but he plays as their centre forward. Chelsea have two amazing options in Pulisic (7m) owned by 6.8% and has averaged 7.33 points per game since the restart but he’s been overshadowed by the 5.3% owned Willian (7.1m) who has two back to back double digit hauls thanks to his set pieces. Lastly, the frankly amazing Foden (5.2m) has returned in every game he’s played so far with two double figure hauls. I haven’t included Ings because he’s still owned by 26.2% of the game.
Whipping Boys – from what I’ve seen so far it has to be Norwich, Bournemouth and to a lesser extent Watford (and Liverpool! Jokes). Those are the teams I will be targeting with regards to both captaincy and attacking assets.
How have we done to date?
A few were worried about the jinx of the first pick, but it finally came good. I was expecting goals in the Man City game but I forgot that Salah doesn’t score away and too always back De Bruyne at home.
FPL Gameweek 34+ Captain - The Fixtures+
Gameweek 34+ fixtures are the reverse of Gameweeks 12 and 14, here’s what happened last time:
Newcastle v Man City – Kevin De Bruyne (10 points) and Sterling (7 points) scored for City.
Wolves v Sheff Utd – there was a goal from Doherty (10 points) from a Jimenez (5 points) assist for anyone with an itchy finger after their performance against Arsenal.
Liverpool v Brighton – surprisingly there was a brace from Van Dijk (17 points) thanks to two assists from Alexander-Arnold (10 points) in this one.
Spurs v Bournemouth – back when Spurs had the new manager bounce, Alli (15 points) bagged a brace and Son (10 points) picked up two assists. Times have changed since then, but this is still a juicy fixture.
Man Utd v Aston Villa – this is a different United side now, the previous one had to rely on an own goal (Rashford assist – 5 points) and a Lindelof goal.
Norwich v Watford – Norwich are dead and buried now and this is the chance for Watford. In the previous game, Deulofeu was the star of the show, but they won’t have him this time.
Chelsea v Crystal Palace – this one featured a goal from the in form Pulisic (8 points) and the unfavoured Abraham (8 points) with an assist from the man of the moment Willian (7 points).
Burnley v West Ham – Barnes and Wood scored in the reverse fixture, but they’re both injured and West Ham are highly motivated to get a result.
Southampton v Everton – this one featured a goal from the form players Ings (7 points) and Richarlison (10 points).
Leicester v Arsenal – there was a goal and assist from Vardy (12 points) in this one, he loves playing Arsenal and he’s finally got the 100 goal monkey off his back. Arsenal are far more organised under Arteta though.

Who do our Twitter followers think is the best FPL Gameweek 34+ captain?
Old Hunting Ground – do any of the likely lads have a good history vs their opposition?
There are some intriguing options from the OGs this week:
Kane – has an immense record against Bournemouth, however five of his goals were scored in the 15/16 season and he hasn’t done much against them recently.
Alexander-Arnold – has a fairly good record of returning against Brighton and when you combine a CS it leads to a double figure haul, however all the assists were at Anfield.
Son – also has an amazing record against Bournemouth, but only two of his goals were scored away and that was prior to his new left back role.
Vardy – only three of his goals were scored away from home but I’m confident he’ll score now he’s got his mojo back.
Pulisic – it’s a tiny sample but he’s looked the most dangerous Chelsea player in each game I’ve seen so far.
De Bruyne – has a solid record against Newcastle and prior to any analysis he was my choice of captain this week.
Salah – has an excellent record against Brighton but he’s only recorded a goal and assist away from home.
Rashford – it’s a small sample size but 100% is 100%.
Sterling – has a decent record against Newcastle with 50% of his returns coming at home.
Members Stats breakdown - FPL Gameweek 34+ Captain
These stats are pulled from the Fantasy Football Hub OPTA Stats tool that is available to all members to help you analyse the players and teams.
I have pulled data from the last four Gameweeks and displayed them as ‘per appearance’. This is to take account of the fact that a lot of players will have reduced minutes with five substitutions allowed. These stats are from straight after the Man City game and prior to the addition of bonus points so I’m not sure how the Spurs and Everton game panned out at this point.
