Who's the best Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 35+ captain? Our resident FPL captaincy expert Chris Tan takes a close look at the fixtures, poll and stats breakdown before concluding on his best pick for the armband.
FPL Gameweek 34+ Captain Recap
Congrats to anyone that was brave enough to Captain Salah this week for him to rack up his highest score of the season and commiserations to those that backed Kane.
What have we learnt?
Motivation is everything – I’ve previously banged on about targeting teams that are playing for something, but this week I’m going one step further. Look at the players that are aiming for something. One of the following is likely to win the golden boot:
It would mean a lot for Vardy after his late start to professional football and he's never won it before. For Aubameyang it would be prestiguous to win two in a row. Ings is having the season of his life and his team will want this for him. Then there’s Salah, only two other players have won it three years in a row. He’s due a rest but I just can’t see it happening and he could have scored four the other night.
How have we done to date?
The first pick is still ticking away and we were brutally unlucky to only come away with just seven points due to some wasteful finishing from Foden and Silva! I didn’t watch the Spurs game, but 0 shots on target (SoT) tells a story in itself (although he was unlucky not to pick up a penalty). I backed myself by bringing in Vardy this week and he was also unlucky not to pick up an assist or two.
FPL Gameweek 35+ Captain - The Fixtures
Gameweek 34+ fixtures are the reverse of Gameweek 4, here’s what happened last time:
Southampton v Man Utd – none of the usual suspects returned, but this was a very different United side.
Chelsea v Sheffield Utd – this one featured a brace from the out of favour Abraham (13 points) and an assist from the in form Pulisic (5 points).
Leicester v Bournemouth – Vardy picked up two goals and an assist (16 points) and this was one of the reasons I brought him in.
Man City v Brighton – Aguero (remember him) was the star of the show here with two goals and an assist (16 points) but Kevin De Bruyne (KDB) didn’t do too badly with a goal and assist to score 13 points.
Burnley v Liverpool – the points were fairly spread around the Liverpool team this game, with Bobby “Only scores away” Firmino grabbed a goal and assist (12 points), Mane a goal (8 points), then Trent Alexander-Arnold (TAA) and Salah assisted (11 and 6 points respectively).
Arsenal v Spurs – both Aubameyang (Auba)and Kane scored in this derby and I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar happened. Auba is the bonus king though and picked up 9 points compared to Kane’s 6.
Twitter / @FFH_HQ FPL Gameweek 35+ Captain Poll
Who do our Twitter followers think is the best FPL Gameweek 35+ captain?
Old Hunting Ground – do any of the likely lads have a good history vs their opposition?
Kane – loves playing Arsenal and six of his goals have come at Home.
De Bruyne – tends to return better at Home than Away and both returns came in the last Home fixture.
Mahrez – contrary to KDB both of his returns came in an Away fixture.
Mane – he’s scored a brace at Home against them in the past.
Salah – he’s only picked up a single return (goal) at Home against Burnley.
Vardy – he’s only scored one goal away to Bournemouth, but pre-Rodgers he only scored against the top sides on the counter-attack. Now he’s more of a flat track bully so I wouldn’t let that put you off.
Sterling – he’s blanked twice and picked up both returns in a single game at Home.
Martial – both goals were scored Away from Home but that was the old United.
Alexander Arnold – hasn’t got the best record, but in the last game a solitary assist and clean sheet (CS) earned him 11 points which highlights his potential.
Rashford – see Martial.
Members Stats breakdown - FPL Gameweek 35+ Captain
These stats are pulled from the Fantasy Football Hub OPTA Stats tool that is available to all members to help you analyse the players and teams.
I have pulled data from the last four Gameweeks and displayed them as ‘totals’. We have a sufficient sample now to extrapolate from and players with less minutes or appearances could score lower, so keep an eye on the number of minutes played.
I pulled these stats straight after the Man United game and prior to the addition of bonus points.
