Gameweek 6 proved to be a rollercoaster ride for many seasoned Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and with it, both Everton and Aston Villa’s unbeaten runs came to a dramatic end. With another week of mid-week European games, it is highly recommended to hold out on transfers till as late as possible ahead of this week’s Friday deadline.

Thank you again to everybody for their kind words and feedback on the last two articles. Going forwards the plan is to write in detail about the top three players being transferred IN and OUT and to also give a transfer rating for all six of the top moves being made. Without further ado, onto Gameweek 7 transfer trends:

Gameweek 7 – Top transfers in

These are the six most transferred IN players in the lead up to Gameweek 7:

best fpl transfer

Most transferred in players list on 28.10.20

Patrick Bamford (£5.9m) – Leeds United

Fixture: Leicester (H)
Ownership: 28.3%

Unsurprisingly, Bamford is the most transferred in player this Gameweek having scored Leeds’ first Premier League hattrick since 2003. This 17 point haul makes him top points scorer in Gameweek 6 with three goals and three bonus points.

Leeds ended Aston Villa’s unbeaten run and Bamford singlehandedly outscored all the other 19 Premier League clubs this week. Before this match, Villa had conceded just two goals in their first four fixtures and kept three clean sheets.

He spent many years left on the fringes by seven Chelsea managers and had issues with Sean Dyche at Burnley too. It looks like Bamford is finally realising his full potential under Marco Bielsa, a manager who gives him his full confidence.

He is the lone striker in a highly creative Bielsa team starting the season at just £5.5m. He has always got into good positions but massively underperformed his xG last season which led to many going into the season labelling him as not clinical enough. Bamford’s record when he last played in the Premier League was also not spectacular.

  • 27 games – 667 minutes
  • 1 goal
  • 0 assists

2020/21 season so far:

  • 6 games – 492 minutes
  • 6 goals
  • 2 assists

He has gone from underperforming his xG in the Championship last season to now overperforming it this season in the Premier League.

19/20 Championship season:

  • 16 goals from 24.82(xG)

20/21 season so far:

  • 6 goals from 2.64(xG)

Bamford Stats

He is taking on average 3.3 shots per game according to our OPTA stats tool which is fantastic compared to the likes of Aubameyang (£11.7m) who is taking only 1.2 shots per game. He has now made it into the top five players in all positions for non-penalty xG with only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m)Sadio Mane (£12m) and Harry Kane (£10.9m) ahead of him this season.

Transfer rating: If he is going to keep his lone striker spot, in a very attacking Bielsa system, then he is an absolute steal and could be the best value player for this season.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.3m) – Crystal Palace

Fixture: Wolverhampton Wanderers (a)
Ownership: 23.6%

Zaha came to Palace’s rescue as usual with a goal and an assist this week vs Fulham earning him 13 points. He made four key passes, seven dribbles, two big chances created and had 82% pass accuracy.

He is in great form having already scored more goals this season (5) in just six matches than he did in the entire 38 matches last season (4)Zaha has also now scored more top-flight goals for Palace than any other player in the club’s history.

Zaha is playing as a forward despite being classed as a midfielder in FPL. Palace has fantastic fixtures up ahead being ranked number one in the Fixture Ticker for attackers between Gameweek 7 and Gameweek 12.

Zaha Stats

One thing to be wary of though is that Palace and Zaha’s underlying stats have not been great this season despite his five goals. They had an open play xG of 0.0 in their last match vs Brighton according to our OPTA stats tool (where Zaha scored a penalty). Additionally, Luka Milivojevic (£5.7m) could take penalty duties back from Zaha if he starts to play every game again since his return last week.

Transfer rating:  Fantastic upcoming fixtures over the next six Gameweeks. He plays 90 minutes every week and also currently on penalty duties. This is a decent transfer but I would perhaps wait till after the Wolves fixture in Gameweek 7 to see more of Palace’s attack first.

Ben Chilwell (£5.8m) – Chelsea

Fixture: Burnley (a)
Ownership: 16.7%

Chelsea had a rocky defensive start to the season but the additions of Edouard Mendy (£5m), Thiago Silva (£5.5m) and Chilwell seem to be stabilising their defensive woes. Manchester United vs Chelsea was an unpredictable 0-0 game but the key takeaway was that the Chelsea defence has significantly improved.

Since Chilwell’s first start in Gameweek 4, he is the highest-scoring defender in FPL with 27 points and has also created the most chances for all defenders. In this time he has one goal, two assists and two clean sheets in just three matches. The only defender with more touches in the final third during these three matches is Andy Robertson (£7.1m).

Chilwell Stats

He is likely to play in the Champion’s League this week so try to wait for the transfer in until after the match. Chelsea are the second-best defence in the Fixture Ticker between Gameweek 7 and Gameweek 12. They face Burnley (a), Sheffield United (H) and Newcastle (a) in the next three fixtures. Chilwell is currently ranked first for all defenders in Predicted Points between Gameweek 7 and 10.

Defender Predicted Points

Transfer rating: Chilwell could return points on both ends of the pitch and even with his price rises so far he seems incredible value. He is a nailed-on starter and faces Burnley next who have scored the least goals in the league (3).

Heung-Min Son (£9.5m) – Tottenham Hotspur

Fixture: Brighton (H)
Ownership: 56%

fantasy football transfer tips

Son Stats

Transfer rating: The dream team combo of Son and Harry Kane (£10.9m) saved many FPL managers in Gameweek 6 with their respective goal and assist. Between them, they have a combined 134 points in just six Gameweeks. With their form, fixtures and effective ownership now is the time to be doubling up on Spurs’ attack for the next few fixtures!

Harry Kane (£10.9m) –Tottenham Hotspur

Fixture: Brighton (H)
Ownership: 40.8%

Kane Stats

Transfer rating: in terms of priority transfer into your teams, I would rank Kane above Son the highest in terms of urgency and predicted points return over the next three fixtures. It is probably a good time to own both but if you do not own either of them then make sure to at least bring in one! I saw a phenomenal stat from OptaJoe this week: Harry Kane has been directly involved in 13 goals this season, the most ever recorded by a player in his team’s first six Premier League games of a campaign (5 goals, 8 assists). Spearhead.

Romain Saïss (£5.3m) – Wolves

Fixture: Crystal Palace (H)
Ownership: 19.9%

who is the best fpl defender

Saiss Stats

Transfer rating: Saïss has terrible fixtures after Palace (16th in the Defence Fixture Ticker for next six Gameweeks). I would not recommend spending £5.3m if you don’t already own him. I prefer Kilman at £4.2m or Semedo at £5.5m from Wolves if you would like one of their defenders.

Gameweek 7 – Top transfers out

These are the six most transferred OUT players in the lead up to Gameweek 7:

fpl transfer tips

Most transferred out players list on 28.10.20

Lucas Digne  (£6.2m) – Everton

Fixture: Newcastle (a)
Ownership: 15.5%

Digne earned owners -2 points in Gameweek 6 after being red-carded although his initial three-match ban has now been reduced to a one-match ban upon appeal. This means he misses the Newcastle (a) fixture and is back for the Manchester United fixture in Gameweek 8.

He has already been transferred out by 273k managers with options such as Chilwell, Saiss, Kurt Zouma (£5.1m) and Castagne (£5.8m) the most popular swaps. Normally I’d condone leaving him on the bench for the one-match ban but seeing James Rodriguez (£8m) taking many set pieces away from him it appears a good time to move on.

fpl gw7 transfer tips

Lucas Digne saw red in Gameweek 6

Transfer rating: Due to the £6.2m price, it is an immediate sell in my opinion. This could be either for another semi-premium defender or for a cheaper defender to raise funds to strengthen the rest of your squad. Currently, these defenders are either in my team or on my watchlist: Robertson, Chilwell, Castagne, Konsa/Mings, Cresswell/Coufal, Dallas/Ayling and Semedo/Saiss/Kilman.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.4m) – Liverpool

Fixture: West Ham (H)
Ownership: 11.9%

Van Dijk is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines in what is a massive blow for the Premier League champions in their 2020/21 season title defence. He is awaiting knee surgery for his ACL and will be facing a minimum of six to eight months on the sidelines during rehab.

His absence dampens Liverpool’s defence as a whole and so it may soon be time to reinvest funds out of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) or Andy Robertson (£7.1m).

best fpl transfer

Liverpool with and without Van Dijk from

Transfer rating: The Dutchman should definitely should be transferred out if you still have him in your team. His absence contributes to the third most transferred out player in Alexander-Arnold too due to Liverpool’s defence being less attractive without Van Dijk.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) – Liverpool

Fixture: West Ham (H)
Ownership: 34.6%

In Gameweek 6 we saw the usual almost goal from a Trent set-piece but this quickly turned sour once Sheffield United won a contentious penalty. FPL managers were unfortunate to lose the clean sheet due to such an incident but Alexander-Arnold was looking back in form in this fixture despite the lack of points.

He also assisted the goal for Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) that was then ruled offside. On another day it could have been a massive haul with a clean sheet, assist and bonus points for the Englishman. Liverpool face West Ham in Gameweek 7 who are potentially facing the loss of Michael Antonio (£6.3m) who has been fantastic all season and is currently ranked fifth for non-penalty xG in the league from players in all positions.

Alexander-Arnold also got an assist in the Champion’s League last night and was in far more advanced positions after a few weeks of playing a lot further back than Robertson.

I can see the appeal in moving on from Trent considering that he is the most expensive defender in FPL and has not returned consistently in comparison to his very high price tag. Lots of cheaper options have emerged who are looking fantastic value.

Alexander-Arnold Stats

Transfer rating: My recommendation is to hold for at least the home match vs West Ham in Gameweek 7. If I was on a wildcard, I would look to change him to Roberston to save the £0.4m. With Van Dijk out injured, I can see the appeal of saving funds and moving on from Liverpool defence altogether in favour of cheaper defenders and funds to strengthen the rest of your squad.

James Rodríguez (£8m) – Everton

Fixture: Newcastle (a)
Ownership: 38.5%

fpl gw7 tips

Rodriguez Stats

Transfer rating:  I am a little bit surprised by the large number of transfers out for Rodriguez. He plays as the chief creator for Everton who have been one of the best-attacking teams this so far this season. If you do not already own him he is an exciting creative pick who I expect to continue racking up assists and the odd goals here and there (he could also have penalty duties while Richarlison is suspended for the next two games). I believe the Colombian should be in addition to Calvert-Lewin in your team as opposed to instead of.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.7m) – Arsenal

Fixture: Manchester United (a)
Ownership: 15.4%

fpl transfer tips for gameweek 7

Aubameyang OPTA Stats

Transfer rating: if you are still holding onto Aubameyang, it is time to move on as not only are his underlying attacking numbers abysmal but Arsenal as a team are ranked close to bottom for chance creation in the entire Premier League. You can make your money work a lot harder for you by moving to any of the abundance of midfielders with better form and fixtures on their side. Aubameyang has been averaging 1.2 shots per game and only had one touch in the box vs Leicester in Gameweek 6.

Aleksandar Mitrović (£5.8m) – Fulham

Fixture: West Bromich Albion (H)
Ownership: 9.5%

best fantasy premier league transfer tips

Mitrovic OPTA Stats

Transfer rating: Fulham face a terrible West Brom team in Gameweek 7 but even this is not enough to stop people from selling Mitrovic this week. He has two goals this season with one coming from the penalty spot (he has missed a penalty too). West Brom has the second-highest big chances conceded this season with 15. Their xGC is also the second-highest with 12.07. If you already own him then I think it is wise to keep for this farewell fixture vs West Brom but players such as Bamford and even Che Adams (£5.8m) are proving to be more clinical lately at this price point.
