<p><em>In this regular series  <a href="https://twitter.com/Hibbo_FPL">@Hibbo_FPL </a> analyses the form of highly owned players to identify opportunities where FPL managers can get ahead of the curve. This article will provide FPL tips for those making a late charge towards top 10k who are set on breaking the template. </em></p>

<h3>The Egyptian King:</h3>
<p><strong>Mohamed Salah (£12.5m)</strong> is the most popular Liverpool asset owned by 77.43% of elite top 10k teams. However, as we approach Gameweek 28 we enter the FPL twilight zone where one week on from the <strong>Bruno Fernandes</strong> jumbo sale, Mo Salah finds his head firmly on the block.</p>
<p>A fire sale is underway with the Egyptian King perched at the top of the transfers out table. Salah has accrued almost double the negative transfers of second most transferred out player <strong>Danny Ings (£8.4m)</strong>. Furthermore, Salah is the only player amongst the top five departing players not currently injured.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>The Numbers:</h3>
<p>The Egyptian began the season in electrifying form opening with a 20 point haul against newly promoted Leeds United. That performance set the tone for his early season with Salah very much at his imperious best. The Liverpool forward looked firmly on course to rival the FPL point scoring of his vintage seasons.</p>
<p>Salah was the top FPL point scorer (118) during the opening 14 gameweeks besting both <strong>Heung-Min Son (£9.6m</strong>) and <strong>Harry Kane (£11.3m).</strong> The Egyptian ranked top amongst all players for shots on target and top amongst all players for goals. Furthermore, Salah ranked top amongst midfielders for shots, shots in the box, and xG.</p>

<p>In early season a confident looking Salah married his trademark high shot volume with sniper like precision dispatching nine of his eleven big chances. For the period above Salah had a shots to goals conversion percentage of 27.7%. Put into context in his record 303 FPL point scoring season (2017/2018) Salah had 22.2% conversion.</p>

<p>Despite a downturn in shot volume Salah has been found badly wanting for accuracy since Gameweek 15. Significantly, the Egyptian has had an equal number of big chances (11) but symptomatic of his lack of confidence has missed nine. Furthermore, during this period the Egyptian converted just 10.8% of total shots into goals.</p>

<h3>The Team:</h3>
<p>Last season Liverpool were a finely tuned geggen-pressing machine with all components perfectly balanced and complimentary. However, following the loss of key players to injury Liverpool have been shockingly out of form. Furthermore, without <strong>Virgil Van Dijk</strong> the team has struggled offensively as well as defensively.</p>
<p>Over the last six league matches Liverpool have won just one game losing the other five. In terms of attack during this period Liverpool rank fifth for shots, tenth for shots on target, sixth for big chances, and fifteenth for goals.</p>

<p><strong>Fabinho (£5.4m)</strong> and <strong>Diogo Jota (£6.6m)</strong> makes a welcome returns from injury to provide an alternative options in midfield and attack. Furthermore, Liverpool ended a run of six home defeats in a row when seeing off RB Leipzig in their midweek Champions League tie.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>The Opposition:</h3>
<p>Over the next three gameweeks road trips to Wolves and Arsenal sandwich Blank Gameweek 29. However, from Gameweek 31 the Reds rank second in the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">Hub’s fixture ticker</a> when sorted by attack. During this eight gameweek period Liverpool face five of the most porous defences in the division.</p>
<p>Renowned for being a powerhouse at home Salah is having more joy away from home this season. Furthermore, over the last six Wolves rank second worst for shots conceded in the box (60) and third worst for shots on target conceded. The return of long term absentee Jonny Otto may go some way towards tightening the Wolves rear-guard.</p>
<p>Arsenal have always been fruitful opposition for Salah who has scored six times against them in seven Premier League appearances. The Gunners recent form has improved but defensively have failed to register a shut out in the last six.  Furthermore, over the same period Arsenal rank second worst for shots on target conceded (31) and second worst for errors leading to a goal (3).</p>

<h3>Challengers to the Throne:</h3>
<p><strong>Gareth Bale (£9.4m)</strong> had been such a peripherial figure since his return to Spurs that questions were legitimately raised about whether his best days had passed. However, over the last month both domestically and on the European stage the Welshman has shown glimpses of his very best form.</p>
<p>Over the last two gameweeks Bale ranks top amongst all players for goals (4) and top amongst midfielders for big chances (3). On his day a bona-fide world beater Bale appears to have rediscovered both form and fitness. However, concerns remain around his gametime as when starting he has played just over an hour on three occasions.</p>

<p>With ownership of just 1.67% amongst the top 10k elite enigmatic Bale represents an interesting differential over the next three (ars, avl, new) that many may avoid due to concerns over fitness or a reluctance to triple on Spurs attack.</p>
<p><strong>Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.4m)</strong> represents a straight swap for those willing to retain their current price structure. With just 1.5% ownership within top 10k elite steams. Recently absent due to off-field personal issues The Gabon international returned with a bang scoring a hattrick against porous Leeds United.</p>
<p>Since the turn of the year the Gunners marksman has rediscovered his goal scoring touch with ten goals in his last fourteen games. However, over the short term the ticker for Arsenal does not make pretty reading (TOT, whu, LIV) however the schedule improves drastically from Gameweek 31 onwards.</p>
<p>A concern for prospective buyers could that Arteta decides to focus on Europea League success to leverage Champions League qualification for next season. Such a scenario could see Aubameyang rested when you need him most.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3>Conclusion:</h3>
<p>In conclusion, the decision to sell Salah will be largely team dependent. For those without Harry Kane, downgrading Salah to facilitate his purchase definitely appeals. Furthermore, given Salah blanks in Gameweek 29 a three game bet on a player with a Gameweek 29 fixture has merit.</p>
<p>There are caveats to this move of course. Those that possess the safety blanket of second wildcard will undoubtedly be better set to move the Egyptian on. Those navigating the remaining period with transfers may be reluctant to move the Liverpool midfielder on only to rebuy in the coming weeks.</p>
<p>There is a train of thought that selling Mo Salah prior to this downturn in form mid-season would have been actually getting ahead of the curve. Previous blanks are a sunk cost and as FPL managers we should concern ourselves only with the future. Whisper it quietly but the biggest heavyweight FPL has even seen is becoming more differential with each transfer out.</p>
