Matthew now goes through his current thoughts on Gameweek 1 and reveals his latest FPL draft.</em></p>
<h2>We go again</h2>
<p>So, 2019/20 was a strange season wasn't it? But there is not a lot of time to dwell on it, with a shortened pre-season and the new season starting in a few week's time. And the new season promises to be another challenging one, with a depleted first Gameweek and fixture congestion almost guaranteed later on.</p>
<h2>The Early Outlook</h2>
<p>What better place to start than looking at the fixtures from the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fixture-ticker/">Hub's fixture ticker</a> - let's look at the first six Gameweeks, as I like to do:</p>

<p>Some observations:</p>
<ul>
<li>The most obvious one is that four teams have no fixture in Gameweek 1, and the rearranged fixtures are unlikely to be for a while. Notably, this includes <strong>both Manchester clubs</strong> as well as <strong>Burnley</strong> and <strong>Aston Villa</strong></li>
<li>Of the clubs above, Manchester United have a decent run after their blank, whilst Manchester City have a more tricky start, although we know they can score against anyone</li>
<li>Overall, I feel that the first six weeks are quite balanced with no club really having a standout great run of fixtures, although a few teams have difficult looking starts (West Ham and Leeds particularly)</li>
<li>Early thoughts on potential captaincy options:
<ul>
<li>Gameweek 1 - Salah or Aubameyang?</li>
<li>Gameweek 2 - Manchester United attacker or Aubameyang?</li>
<li>Gameweek 3 - Chelsea attacker?</li>
<li>Gameweek 4 - Manchester City attacker, Salah or Chelsea attacker?</li>
<li>Gameweek 5 - Chelsea or Manchester United attacker?</li>
<li>Gameweek 6 - Who knows?</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>From the above it looks like Chelsea attackers start to become potentially important after the first couple of gameweeks, although which one is uncertain at this point with almost a new attack in place</li>
</ul>
<h2>My FPL Draft Shortlist</h2>
<p>As regular readers will know, I like a table, and I have come up with a shortlist for each position, each of which I have roughly split into 'price-ranges', which will help to identify a potentially good and flexible structure for my squad.</p>
<p>To explain the columns:</p>
<ul>
<li>Player and £ - probably self-explanatory</li>
<li>No. - the number of players on my radar in that price range</li>
<li>Fix - the fixture difficulty factor, from the Hub's ticker (higher = better)</li>
<li>xPts - the average expected FPL points per appearance in the post-lockdown period (from the Hub's Opta Stats tool)</li>
<li>Adj - xPts adjusted for fixture difficulty (Fix multiplied by xPts)</li>
<li>Value - Adjusted figure divided by price</li>
</ul>
<p>N.B. The numbers highlighted pink are those with no GW1 fixture, orange is to show a current injury doubt and yellow is where we have no equivalent data from last season</p>
