Gameweek 23 Review

For once I benefited from a VAR decision as my Friday night captain Dean Henderson grabbed 18 points as Robert Snodgrass’ 91st minute equaliser was ruled out. Seemingly many of the top 1000 had the Sheffield United keeper or a defender as I only moved up 146 places from 644th to 498th overnight.

Saturday wasn’t the best of days. As I mentioned last week I reluctantly removed Marcus Rashford to allow me a Liverpool defensive treble up and he was the player that I was most fearful of on Saturday. When I planned my moves and captains a while back Jamie Vardy had always been my pick for this weekend, however since then Vardy has missed two games, had a baby and had a quiet spell. Southampton have improved ten fold and Rashford has been a pretty consistent scorer so it was a big blow for Vardy to only get an assist whilst Rashford netted twice, got T2 shots bonus and MOTM especially given his ownership of 45.1% in the top 1000 before Saturday’s 18 point haul. Leicester conceded not once but twice and more worryingly weren’t anywhere close to passing bonus. Liverpool kept a clean sheet and it was passing bonus all round to somewhat salvage the day.

Sunday and I only had Kevin de Bruyne and Ismail Sarr in action. Sarr grabbed an assist in an impressive display but despite being given the highest rating on Sky Sports 9/10 didn’t end up with MOTM which was given to Troy Deeney 8/10. Explain that one. De Bruyne again was sensational with two assists but unfortunately he only played 63 minutes as City demolished a woeful Villa. More annoyingly de Bruyne was only six passes short of passing bonus when he was subbed. Sergio Aguero was the stuff of dreams as his hat trick resulted in a 52 point captaincy. His ownership was 5.6% of the top 1000 teams and 15.32% overall before kick off. I’m not sure I’d have ever seriously considered him this weekend with it being an away game and not the first of the day it was all too risky for me. Fair play to those who captained him; maybe if I was miles behind it would have been worth a throw of the dice. But can you trust Manchester City? I wouldn’t be surprised if Aguero didn’t start the next game; then again he could bag four against Palace on Saturday. Talking of Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez moved up to become the third highest point scoring midfielder despite only starting 12 games this season. Maybe one for the overhaul?

So I finished the gameweek on 89 points. Now on 1756 points for the season and currently sit in 693rd. Considering I didn’t have Rashford or Aguero I’ll take a 49 place drop over the weekend. On the plus side I didn’t use any transfers and still aim to be on 15 transfers left by the overall and try to maintain my top 1000 rank, although top 500 would be even better to then try and force myself into the top 100 by the end of the season.
