Man of The Match Awards

Digne, Rice, Deulofeu and Jesus all picked up their second awards of the season. Surprisingly it was de Gea’s first MOTM award. Sill Eden Hazard and James Maddison lead the way with five awards each. I know it’s still January but I just can’t see anyone getting near double figures like we did last season with Salah getting 12 and KDB taking home 10.

Bonus Points

Goalkeepers

Four goalkeepers made T2 saves bonus this week. David de Gea performed heroics on Sunday as United kept a clean sheet with no less than 11 saves in the win over Spurs. Rui Patricio whilst he did concede three, did manage to pull off seven saves, as did Hugo LLoris and Jordan Pickford.

Defenders

Looking at T2 passes as always and ten players achieved this – Alderweireld, Danilo, Koscielny, Laporte, Luiz, Rudiger, Maguire, Stones, van Dijk and Walker.

Defenders who made T1 passing – Azpilicueta, Odoi, Sokratis, Ream, Robertson and Vertonghen.

T1 tackles, no surprise to see Wan-Bissaka again make the list along with Clyne and Digne.

So again the top defenders are just such good value with pretty much guaranteed T2 bonus each week. It was nice of Manchester City to keep a clean sheet for the first time in eight games.

Midfielders

Again concentrating on T2 passing, and six made the magic 70 passes mark, they were Jorginho, Henderson, Fernandinho, David Silva, Fabinho and Wijnaldum.

Only one player made T2 tackles and that was Jorginho.

Paul Pogba made T2 shots bonus.

Long forgotten man Seri made T1 passes along with Bernado Silva.

Alli and Pedro made T1 shots and finally T1 tackles was made by Henderson and maybe of note – Harry Winks and McNeil of Burnley.

If Jorginho could make tackle bonus each week then he would be more appealing. I saw on the match of the day that despite making over 1800 passes not one has been an assist. It’s such a shame that he hasn’t got that in his locker as I don’t think that just passing is enough to warrant him as a pick.

Pogba is just unbelievable. And he really can get points from anywhere, goals, assists, shot and passing bonus. He even can get tackle bonus plus he is a bit of a MOTM favourite in my opinion.

Henderson getting passing and tackle bonus was a bit of a flashback to the glory days of 16/17 season.

Strikers

Three strikers made bonus this week, Harry Kane and Wilfred Zaha achieved T1 shots while Ashley Barnes earned T1 tackle bonus in the win over Fulham. Well it wasnt going to be for shots on target as it was well publicised that Burnley won the game without having a shot on target.

At the start of the season, I had said that 12-15 transfers left by the overhaul would be ideal. But even ten could be ok and it looks like the top 100 will be around that figure. Harry Kane’s injury will have an impact this week. Unless people moved him out Monday night for a Man City asset.

Notes

There wasn’t much to write home about. Saturday and Sunday weren’t very exciting, Salah a one goal captain on Saturday and Kane managed shots bonus as Sunday captain. The plan had been Salah out for Aguero on Monday, but fearing the worst for Harry Kane I decided he’d make way for the Argentinian. Only Pep had other ideas and Gabriel Jesus started against Wolves. I thought I’d take the gamble and just go for Jesus and made him captain. And for once I had a decent captain haul. It was at a cost though as my Wolves duo of Boly ( red card ) and Coady ( own goal ) finished the night on minus points. However, it pushed me up from 388th to 208th overnight.

Future Transfer Plans

None until Overhaul. I only have seven left so I’m well short of where I want to be. Ideally, I’d like 12 going into the final stretch from Overhaul till seasons end. But as said before I’ve been struggling this season. But that is it now. I’ll hold Boly despite his red card and ban.

I have every captaincy requirement covered until the overhaul, so by now going a few weeks without using any, I’m hoping that people can catch me up with transfers used but hopefully not on leader board positions.

It will certainly be interesting trying to navigate through the remainder of the season with limited transfers, but I like a challenge so let’s bring it on.

Captaincy Plan

Saturday –  Salah

Sunday – Jesus (Sterling if he’s benched, Sane if he’s benched)
