This was a slightly below average scoring game week with 937 points.  Man City is the only team to score three figures with 109 points following their 4-0 win home to Bournemouth, who were the lowest scorers with 13 points.

I suppose the Christmas spirit and charity to all men was behind Lukaku picking up his first MotM of the season.  He picked up no goals, assists, or bonuses for anything during the match.  Kane moves to one of the top spot with 5 MotM awards this season.

Man City had a comfortable win at home to Bournemouth and racked up the bonus awards and again collecting more tier 2 passing awards than any other team’s total bonuses.  Chelsea also did very well on passing awards and Swansea excelled in passing from the lower teams.

This week I’m going to have a closer inspection on P. Gross as he scored again at the weekend and appeared in my charts.

Gross is currently 11th in total points scored by midfielders, moves up to 4th based on pts/£m and down to 10th based on pts/g/£m.  Gross has started 18 games and made a sub appearance in the other, scoring 4 goals with 5 assists.  Being a class player in team expected to fight relegation has resulted in 3 MotM awards, however he doesn’t collect many bonuses with a single tier 2 passing and a single tier 1 tackling.
His underlying <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> show he has scored 26.7% of the team goals, though only had 11.5% of the team’s shot on target.  He has 33.3% of assists while creating 31.4% of chances.  This suggests he is over-performing on the number of goals scored..
On the key metric of pts/£m/g is a very good 0.68, which is close to the gold standard 0.7.  However, if we look at a break-won of his points per week we see:

In week 4 Gross scored 22 points which is approaching 25% of his total for the season.  So even though he is scoring at a very impressive 0.68 pts/g/£m, considering his goals per shot is above expectation, most of his points came from a single game, he doesn’t pick up many bonuses and Brighton are not a high scoring side means he will not be joining my team.
My teams
Thought both my teams would have done well this week with Kane in the side as I seemed to hear a lot of people talk of dropping him.  I didn’t captain him as went for Otamendi in the first team (ahead of Kane and Hazard) and KdB for the second team.  The defences were solid with four clean sheets in each team.  My first team ended the game week with 107 points and moved up just over 40 places to 181, while the second team managed 100 points and slipped 2 places to 19th.
