The last two game weeks had no break between them so this update covers both game weeks. The average total points for the two weeks was a fairly low 926 points. Chelsea is the top scorers with 157 points, while Stoke had the least with only 34 points.
Man of the match
The table below are the Sky man of the matches:
de Bruyne now leads the race with eight awards for the season closely followed by Salah on seven. On joint third is Kane and Hazard with six awards each.
The distribution of bonuses by team this week is:
There weren’t many bonuses around for the teams in the bottom half and West Ham didn’t pick up any over their two games. Southampton seemed to be picking up bonuses despite their woeful form and Watford are also in the same boat.
The season awards are as follows:
The bonuses by position are as follows, strikers had a good week while the defenders were below expectation.
Bonus by player
The table of top players by different points and awards is:
This week I’m going to look a bit more closely at Aguero, mainly as he is a top player and with Jesus being injured the risk of selection is reduced. He is in my striker chart below:
Aguero is currently 2nd in the total points scored by strikers, stays in 2nd based on pts/£m and 3rd based on pts/g/£m. He has started 15 games and made a sub appearance in two other matches, scoring 13 goals with 4 assists. He has also picked up 2 MotM awards. In addition, he has achieved five shots on target bonuses.
His underlying stats show he has scored 10.5% of the team goals, though had 22.3% of the team’s shot on target. He has 2.6% of assists while creating 9.6% of chances. This suggests he is performing below expected on the number of goals scored and assists.
On the key metric of pts/£m/g is a slightly below ideal at 0.59, which is significantly below the gold standard 0.7. Though if you only include the matches he started this would healthy 0.67
However, if we look at a break-won of his points per week we see:
There is no recent trend to suggest that compels me to want to bring him in now. However, following next weeks away trip to Liverpool, Man City are at home to Newcastle, WBA and Leicester before the overhaul. With Jesus out injured, this could be a gamble worth taking if you have the transfers available. I’m not sure I would buy him at the overhaul with Man City likely to have blank game weeks due to the League Cup final and FA cup games.
It was a difficult week for both my teams with players rested or injured. This probably didn’t hurt my team too much as players would be common to other teams. At the end of GW 21, KdB, seemed to be badly injured and Ozil looked like missing a few games. On top of this with Jesus injured meant Aguero could be desirable. For the first team, I decided to make some changes to lose the two players mentioned above, to bring in Aguero and Stones. For the second team with few transfers and KdB being selected in GW22 enabled me to hold firm and make not transfers. Position wise, both teams moved upwards and then fell away by the last game to lie in 141st and 17th respectively.
