My big guns up front delivered around two thirds of my total score to edge me into the top 100 for the first time this season. But, with the a few question marks around the rest of my squad and Pogba pulling his hamstring, it looks like I’ll need to delve into the transfer budget earlier than intended in order to stay there.
Last Gameweek: 79
Overall Points: 363
Overall Rank: 80
Transfers Remaining: 37
In the Bank: 1m
Between the sticks, Fabianski racked up the bonus and was slightly unfortunate not to shut out Newcastle at the liberty. With decent fixtures on the horizon, I’m happy for the Polish international to retain his place over the medium term.
At the back, last minute tinkering made me switch in Lowe over Huddersfield teammate and skipper Smith. It was a tight call, but having looked at the numbers, Lowe’s tendency to pick up more bonus edged it. Unfortunately, he got subbed early for Mounie and may face competition at left back, so this could be an ill advised switch.
Overhaul tinkering also saw me acquire the services of Matic and Knockaert in exchange for Lanzini and Xhaka. Matic was unlucky not to pick up bonus. Knockhaert played well but also failed to return any points. Despite their blanks, I’m happy with the pair in my side for now. Although, if Knockhaert fails to do anything on Friday, I could be tempted into switching him out (more on that below).
Upfront, it couldn’t have gone much better as big hitters Kane, Lukaku and Jesus brought home the points. Unfortunately, they played on the same day, meaning I could only captain one (and picked the wrong one!).
Overall, I’m pretty pleased with my team, and feel like I dodged a couple of bullets in Abraham and Antonio. Although the latter picked up a slightly questionable MOM award, I don’t regret avoiding the marauding winger.
Frustratingly Paul Pogba limped off with what looks to have been a hamstring injury midweek. Here are the candidates I’m considering as replacements:
Without even considering striker or defender switches, we have a a big choice and potentially a crucial one. All of the above have their merits and at the time of writing, I have no idea which way I’ll go. City have a kind run of fixtures, Hazard and Coutinho are proven fantasy big hitters and MOTM collectors.
At the moment, Eriksen‘s price is attracting me as it means I can draft in either Coutinho or De Bruyne for Kockhaert in a double swoop. Although Knockhaert offers a captaincy option later down the line, I’m fairly convinced that either of these two will outperform the Brighton winger.
The main issue hear is that the £1m in the bank was earmarked for a Jesus > Sanchez move a week on Monday. With that in mind, it may end up going for a straight switch to Hazard… Or Coutinho.. Or possibly De Bruyne.
I also have to keep one eye on Hegazi not starting… Plenty of head-scratching over the next couple of days.
My captaincy route
Knockhaert takes armband duties away to Bournemouth on Friday. Kane looks the prime candidate for Saturday, although I may be tempted by Salah who squares up to a Heatonless Burnley outfit in Merseyside. Lukaku will shoulder the burden come Sunday.
