Mikel Arteta was giving nothing away regarding his team selection with a trip to Everton on Saturday and a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie next week. "We are losing players every game. Let's see who is available for tomorrow and then the next game. There's not much we can play with the squad that we have at the moment. Let's go game by game." Hector Bellerin returns after his ban, but whether the Spaniard is handed a recall remains to be seen after Maitland-Niles impressed. "I think Ainsley had a good game and I think he is evolving really good. He's made - in this year - big, big progress and he's in a much better place than what he was a year ago, and he needs to keep doing what he's doing." Granit Xhaka remains out, and Gabriel is unavailable following his dismissal against Southampton. "We have a few doubts," said Arteta. "Obviously, we cannot tell you who but we have some doubts for tomorrow, yes." Thomas Partey is the only confirmed injury absentee, but Martinelli will not be considered following his recent return from a long-term knee injury. "He's around the training ground, and he's around our training sessions. He's a player that we've been missing because he brings something special to the team. He's contagious with his attitude, and I think it's going to be a big boost when we have him."

Matty Cash and Douglas Luiz were both suspended, Ezri Konsa was ill, Trezeguet and Ross Barkley were injured, it was a test, and the squad came out of it really, really well today. We tweaked the shape today because of the way Burnley play. To get a performance like that, I can’t be disappointed. I’m disappointed with the result – the players are too because we had enough chances to win two or three games.” Smith is hopeful that Konsa can recover in time for Sunday while Barkley has a chance of returning to the matchday squad. "He was close, but his injury was in a place where there is a risk, and the risk was too high for this game. We don't want a re-injury, and he could be prone to that. We just didn't feel that he was 100 per cent, and kept him out of it."

He has all the attributes you need to be a top goalkeeper." Meanwhile, Leandro Trossard impressed on his return to the side. "It was good to have him back, he's been working hard, and there's more to come from him. I thought he did well in the game and he'll get stronger from that."

Dale Stephens is also likely to get another run out for the under-23s before being considered for the first-team.
