The Best Leeds United FPL Players 2021/22

The best Leeds United FPL players were a revelation last season. In this article, we look at the best options Leeds have to offer and whether their players can produce the same level of FPL magic this time round.

You can find the best FPL players for all Premier League teams in our definitive guide!

The Best Leeds United FPL Players 2021/22 | Leeds United in Brief

Leeds United secured a top half finish in the Premier League last season despite having just been promoted. Marcelo Bielsa’s side finished 9th in style, with 62 goals scored which was the joint sixth highest in the league along with West Ham United.

Their defensive record wasn’t as impressive. Leeds conceded 54 goals which was the sixth worst of all teams but there was a notable improvement in the second half of the season. This coincided with Diego Llorente’s (£4.5m) introduction to the team and they kept 11 clean sheets across the whole campaign.

Leedsexpected goals (xG) was 61.66 which matches the amount of goals they scored in total. They only finished six points off a Europa League spot and were 31 points clear off the relegation zone to survive comfortably in the end.

Bielsa is yet to sign a new contract but he has been negotiating one-year extensions after every season. The Argentine is expected to do the same once again before the new Premier League campaign commences. This is the longest stint ‘El Loco’ has had at club level in his 31-year managerial career.

The Best Crystal Palace FPL Players 2021/22

The Best Leeds United FPL Players | Jack Harrison (MID – £6.0m)

After spending the last three years on loan at Leeds, Jack Harrison signed permanently from Manchester City this summer.

Having already made 128 appearances for the Whites, he can continue from where he left off last season.

The English winger was Leeds’ third highest scoring player in terms of Fantasy Premier League points with 160. Only Patrick Bamford (£8.0m) and Stuart Dallas (£5.5m) outperformed him and he remains a differential with only 5% ownership.

In his debut Premier League season, Harrison scored eight goals and made 10 assists. The former Manchester City player also attained 15 bonus points which is more than Raphinha (£6.5m).

Harrison overperformed his xG (6.25) and xA (7.07) by a significant margin which explains his explosiveness and inconsistency as an FPL asset compared to his Brazilian teammate.

However, Harrison created 57 chances, with nine of them being dubbed ‘big chances‘. He also produced 424 passes in the final third which showcases how instrumental he is in how Leeds attack from wide areas.

Within the first four Gameweeks, Leeds face Manchester United (a), Everton (H), Burnley (a) and Liverpool (H) which is the third worst set of fixtures in terms of difficulty according to our fixture ticker.

After this challenging start to the season, there is a significant fixture swing from Gameweek 5 onwards. The Peacocks play Newcastle United (a), Watford (H), Norwich City (a) to complete a promising set of matches until Gameweek 11.

The Best Wolves FPL Players 2021/22

The Best Leeds United FPL Players | Raphinha (MID – £6.5m)

Despite the difficult start which awaits Leeds, Raphinha is owned by 25% of FPL managers (and with good reason).

The Brazilian notched six goals and 10 assists in only 2358 minutes after missing the opening period of last season.

He’s also a bonus points magnet (scoring 11) despite having to share them with the likes of Bamford, Dallas and Harrison amongst a star-studded FPL cast.

Raphinha’s initial price was £5.5m and despite the £1m increase this year, he could arguably have been higher given what he can offer.

Unlike Harrison, Raphinha matched his xG and xA figures faithfully (6.26 and 8.54 respectively). He had 43 shots in the box which is superior to Harrison’s 35 despite having considerably less game time. Raphinha also created 12 big chances and 62 overall.

The talented winger is on set pieces and is a constant threat down that right hand side from open play. He can score or assist at any time, so there are multiple avenues for points.

Do not put it past Raphinha to score well against Manchester United or Liverpool.

The fixtures against Everton and Burnley remain promising from an attacking perspective, so it may be worth going for Raphinha from the start. This would save a transfer heading into the impressive fixture swing which commences in Gameweek 5 for Raphinha and co.

Who are the Best FPL Budget Midfielders? Gameweek 1

The Best Leeds United FPL Players | Luke Ayling (DEF – £4.5m)

With Dallas now reclassified as a midfielder, Luke Ayling is the standout defensive option for Leeds.

Illan Meslier (£5.om) is a viable alternative who is worth consideration but he has gone up from his £4.5m price last season.

Ayling scored 100 points but according to our comparison tool, his expected points was 166.23 which suggests a massive underperformance.

His expected assists figure of 3.54 was superior to Dallas (3.13) and he created 27 chances compared to the Northern Irishman’s 26.

They both had 82 crosses and Ayling’s 14 shots in the box is nothing to be sniffed at. If Ayling were to sustain these underlying statistics in the coming season, you’d expect him to score significantly higher.

Llorente could also have a full season under his belt, so Leeds are capable of keeping more clean sheets from the get go.

Before the Spaniard nailed down a starting spot, Leeds conceded 21 goals versus the ‘big six’ in six matches. They have been significantly more resilient against the better sides ever since.

With 9.3% ownership, Ayling isn’t a differential by any stretch of the imagination. Yet his underlying numbers suggest he can fill the FPL void left by Dallas who is no longer a defender we can rely on.
