Hi all, I am starting a weekly series on punts/differentials of the week. This article will try to pick a few players who can help you catch up or kick on in your mini-leagues. Because of the upcoming DGW22, most of the picks this week would be DGW players.
First up is Spurs’ explosive mid Heung-Min Son. The South Korean superstar is in scintillating form and is just behind Mohamed ‘Scores every game’ Salah and Harry ‘Record Breaker’ Kane. This speaks volumes about how well he is doing currently. Spurs have arguably the easiest DGW fixtures one can ask for and at 8.0m, Sonny offers the cheapest route into the Spurs attack for this plum double. His ownership of just 5.9% (steadily rising now) is what makes him even more tempting. Son also has better underlying stats compared to Eriksen and Alli (basis snapshots from fantasyfootballcloud.com), which makes him the standout differential pick for me this GW. The only worry is rotation, but I think Son’s explosiveness can cause enough damage during the time he gets on the pitch.

Next up is West Ham’s big money signing Marko Arnautovic. Tired, lazy, disinterested – These words describe Arnautovic for most parts of this season. However, there has been a sudden and an incredible turn in his form recently. He has scored 5 goals in his last 5 games and seems rejuvenated under David Moyes. He is at the attacking forefront now as shown by his underlying stats and seems the most important in attack for Moyes. At an ownership of just 3.9% and with extremely kind fixtures (just 1 difficult game in the next 7) he seems a good option. Add to that the upcoming DGW and I think he becomes a terrific option. Has the form, the fixtures and the price, then why not?
The 3rd differential pick for me would be West Ham’s shot stopper Adrian. David Moyes took a big decision of dropping Hart for Adrian 6 games back and that decision has clearly looked a correct one. Adrian has kept 3 clean sheets in the last 6 games and has made a lot of important saves along the way, something that Hart clearly was lacking. At 4.3m he is dirt cheap, gives you a differential pick (TSB 1.8%) and has a DGW. The risk here is competition with Hart but Adrian has started the last 6 and put in some cracking performances so I don’t see Hart getting his place back anytime soon.
The last pick is in the form of a Belgian at the heart of Spurs’ defence, Jan Vertonghen. At 6.0m he is a little pricey but has played every minute of every game except for 59 mins vs WBA this season. You cannot get someone who is more nailed on than that during this rotation crazy period. Again, the DGW fixtures here are plum, with two relegation battling teams. Good chances for clean sheets in both which can also result in Vert getting bps. At an ownership of 8.1%, he can be a good pick to help you this week.
