Each year, the three promoted teams breathe new life into the Premier League and FPL, arriving with a host of new names and some familiar faces. For many FPL managers, these sides are full of unknowns; Who are the players? How does the team play? Which players should we be considering for our GW1 squads? This 3-part series hopes to help you answer all of those questions, reflecting on how the trio fared last season as they won promotion and identifying the main men from an FPL perspective. Aston Villa

Whereas Villa’s fellow promoted sides have largely tried to preserve the squads which won them promotion, Villa have split from the pack and thrown money at improving their squad over the summer. With close to £150 million spent, manager Dean Smith has added at least five first team players to his squad if you include the loans from last season which have been made permanent.

It appears that there will be a pronounced change in Villa’s attacking style this coming season. Last term, the pacey Tammy Abraham led the line in a 4-1-4-1 cum 4-3-3 formation. In the final third, Villa’s wingers would effectively become forwards and come inside as the full-backs continued to provide some width.
