<p>Ajax attacker Antony has signed for Manchester United following a summer of speculation &#8211; but what are his FPL and wider fantasy football prospects?</p>
<p>United announced on Tuesday  (August 30) they had <a href="https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/man-utd-reaches-agreement-with-ajax-for-transfer-of-antony-30-august-2022?utm_campaign=ManUtd&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_source=twitter">reached an agreement</a> with Ajax &#8211; and the club confirmed the signing had been completed on <a href="https://twitter.com/ManUtd/status/1565255642943832067">Thursday</a> (September 1).</p>
<p>The Brazilian will link up with former manager Erik ten Hag, who brought him to the Dutch club from Sao Paulo.</p>
<p>Antony will not be ready in time to face Leicester on Thursday, however he could make his debut on Sunday against Arsenal.</p>
<p>We explore Antony&#8217;s fantasy credentials &#8211; and we&#8217;ve got some expert insight into what separates him from other Eredivisie stars.</p>

<h2>Antony &#8211; youth career, move to Ajax and international performances</h2>
<p>Antony, 22, rose through the youth ranks of Sao Paulo. In 2018, after eight years at the club, he broke into the senior team.</p>
<p>He played 48 times for the Brazilian side, scoring six times, before Ajax signed him in 2020 for a fee of around £13m.</p>
<p>It was in the Netherlands where he first linked up with ten Hag.</p>
<p>The young Brazilian joined shortly after <strong>Hakim Ziyech</strong> &#8211; one of the key figures in Ajax&#8217;s run to the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals &#8211; had left Amsterdam for Chelsea.</p>
<p>Antony quickly established himself in the Ajax first team and made 32 appearances in his debut Eredivisie campaign, scoring nine goals and assisting eight.</p>
<p>He managed a similar goal tally in the 2021/22 season, scoring eight and assisting four in 23 games.</p>
<p>His reduced minutes came as a result of injury, with an <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antony/verletzungen/spieler/602105">ankle problem</a> in March keeping him out for eight games, according to Transfermarkt.</p>
<p>In European matches, Antony has made 11 Champions League appearances over the course of two seasons. He has scored three goals and assisted four in the competition.</p>
<p>Antony was part of Brazil&#8217;s under-23 squad for the 2020 Olympics, held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 postponement.</p>
<p>He scored six goals in 22 games while playing for the under-23s, and made his senior debut in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in October 2021.</p>
<p>He scored a debut goal in the 3-1 victory, after coming on as a second-half substitute.</p>

<h2>Antony &#8211; why do Manchester United want him?</h2>
<p>Antony comes to the Premier League with the pressure of a a hefty price tag on his shoulders.</p>
<p>United will pay a reported £80m, plus add-ons, to get their man &#8211; a record-breaking fee for an Eredivisie player.</p>
<p>It is a sum which has raised eyebrows among some, particularly given that on the face of it, Antony&#8217;s <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> are not as impressive as others.</p>
<p><strong>Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m)</strong> signed for Leeds for a reported £21m on the back of a 12 goal, seven assist season.</p>
<p>And <strong>Cody Gakpo </strong>of PSV Eindhoven has been linked with United, among other clubs, having scored 12 and assisted 13 last season.</p>
<p>Indeed for goals, Antony was joint-21st in the Eredivisie in 2021/22.</p>
<p>But away from last season&#8217;s <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a>, Sinisterra and Gakpo are different types of player.</p>
<p>Antony has operated exclusively on the right-hand side, with <a href="https://www.whoscored.com/Players/364315/Show/Antony">WhoScored</a> noting the left-footer&#8217;s ability to cut inside from that flank.</p>
<p>In contrast, Gakpo and Sinisterra have primarily operated down the left, where United have more options.</p>
<p>The signing of Antony therefore provides United with a degree of balance in their attack.</p>
<p><strong>Jadon Sancho (£7.3m) </strong>has been mainly used on the right by Erik ten Hag so far but the England international is predominantly right-footed.</p>
<h4>Expert insight</h4>
<p>Antony&#8217;s Champions League experience may also have counted in his favour.</p>
<p>Sinisterra has not played a Champions League game and Gakpo has just seven minutes of top-level European gametime under his belt.</p>
<p><a href="https://twitter.com/EredivisieMike">Michael Statham</a>, who covers Dutch football for the <a href="http://www.football-oranje.com/">Football-Oranje</a> website, agreed Antony had an advantage over some of his Eredivisie peers.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;Antony has the edge over other Eredivisie attacking stars thanks to his pace, show-boating skills and his proven record in the Champions League.</p>
<p>&#8220;On his day, he is a special player who gets people off their seats and can provide a moment of magic to win a game.</p>
<p>&#8220;Gakpo has shown that when he is on the big stage for club or country, he goes quiet, and Sinisterra needed longer with Feyenoord to prove he can be a star for a top club in Europe.&#8221;</p>
<h2>Antony FPL prospects</h2>
<p>Antony has been priced up as a £7.5m midfielder, the same level <strong>Jadon Sancho (£7.3m) </strong>started at, and more than £1m more than <strong>Marcus Rashford (£6.3m)</strong>.</p>
<p>Given the fee and the manager&#8217;s historic trust in the Brazilian, he is likely to become a key part of United&#8217;s attacking lineup.</p>
<p><strong>Cristiano Ronaldo </strong>has played a bit-part role so far, with ten Hag preferring <strong>Marcus Rashford </strong>up top since United&#8217;s heavy defeat to Brentford in the second game of the season.</p>
<p>Ronaldo has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Old Trafford too, although that has yet to materialise.</p>
<p>Should the Portuguese player remain on the fringes of the first team, it creates room for Antony to stake a strong claim on the right of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, with Sancho shifted to the left.</p>
<p>Should Ronaldo re-establish himself, there could be greater competition for places on the flanks, with Rashford added into the mix.</p>
<p>Rashford and Sancho may both be better suited to the left-hand side, although it is not out of the question they could share minutes with Antony at times.</p>
<p>As is often the case with new signings, a period of monitoring is wise before jumping in.</p>

<h2>Antony &#8211; Sky, TFF and Dream Team prospects</h2>
<p>Goals and assists are important in all fantasy formats, but away from FPL other factors are also in play.</p>
<p>Telegraph awards midfielders points for tackles, while in Sky points are available for passing, shots and tackle tiers.</p>
<p>Sun Dream also uses WhoScored ratings and awards bonus points to the &#8216;star man&#8217; and those who have achieved a game rating of seven or above.</p>
<p>Antony achieved an average WhoScored rating of 7.47 in the league last season &#8211; and had got off to a flyer this time around, with an average of 8.24 in his two games, in which he scored one and assisted two.</p>
<p>Last season, he registered a total of 3.4 shots, 1.6 key passes and one tackle per game. Around half of these shots were outside the box.</p>
