Who are the Best FPL Midfielders For Gameweek 13?

Phil Foden (£8.3m) – Manchester City

Fixture: West Ham United (H)

Phil Foden has started the last seven league games for Manchester City, scoring three goals and two assists.

He has 15 Shots in the Box, 9 Shots on Target, an xG of 2.90 and an xA of 2.55. He is clearly one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players this season, which was proven with him coming off on 57 minutes against Everton last gameweek ahead of their midweek Champions League fixture against PSG.

Man City come up against West Ham in Gameweek 13. The Hammers have had a great start to the season despite their loss last week to Wolves. They sit fourth in the league and have only conceded 14 goals (5th) with an xGC of 14.9 (4th).

However, City are such a strong and well-balanced team; I don’t see the Hammers keeping them at bay. They have scored 25 goals (3rd) with 150 Shots in the Box (2nd), 69 Shots on Target (2nd) and an xG of 25 (2nd).

Looking at the wealth of attacking talent they have all over the pitch, they are going to score plenty of goals this season and against most teams. They are also the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%) according to the bookmakers.

Foden is the fourth highest predicted scoring midfielder for Gameweek 13 according to our Points Prediction Tool and it also ranks him at 55% for anytime returns.

Diogo Jota (£7.5m) - Liverpool

Fixture: Southampton (H)

The Liverpool forward now has five goals and one assist in nine starts. He has accumulated 20 Shots in the Box, 11 Shots on Target with an xG of 4.74 and he has also created four Big Chances with an xA of 2.90.

At only £7.5m he is an essential player to have in our teams as long as Robert Firmino (£8.8m) is injured. His stats are as good as the premium options and he is playing as the number 9 in the best attacking team in the league.

Liverpool host Southampton in Gameweek 13, which should be another routine win for the Reds. They have scored 35 goals (1st) with 87 Shots on Target (1st), 159 Shots in the Box (1st) and an xG of 31.3 (1st). And although Saints have been good defensively this season, they will be no match for Liverpool in my opinion.

The bookmakers also have them as the joint-favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%) in Gameweek 13 and it's no surprise. Diogo Jota is also priced at a healthy 46% to score anytime which makes him the third highest midfielder.

Our Points Prediction Tool also has him at 60% for anytime returns.

Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) – Liverpool

Fixture: Southampton (H)

After only 12 games the Egyptian sits on a mammoth 11 goals and eight assists.  He is the highest scoring player in the game with 125 points and 46 points ahead of second-placed Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao Cancelo. He has simply been outstanding and remains as a perma-captain for me.

He has 39 Shots in the Box (1st), 26 Shots on Target (1st), 13 Big Chances (1st) and an xG of 9.00 (1st). He has also created eight Big Chances (1st) with an xA of 5.77 (1st). Being top for both xG and xA after 12 games is some feat and his stats show that this is more than sustainable.

As mentioned earlier, Liverpool’s attacking stats and output have also been phenomenal and the best in the league by far. With the form they are in, they really are capable of scoring 3+ goals against most teams.

With them also being the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%) this week and Mohamed Salah the favourite to score anytime (63%), he is again the best option for the gameweek. There is no point in looking elsewhere for the captaincy just now.

Furthermore, Mohamed Salah is also top for predicted points (8.0) amongst all players according to our Points Prediction Tool and he is at a massive 70% for anytime returns (2nd).

Conor Gallagher (£5.8m) – Crystal Palace

Fixture: Wolves (H)

Conor Gallagher is having his breakthrough season this year with Crystal Palace. He has already managed four goals and five assists and his underlying numbers have been just as impressive.

He has 16 Shots in the Box, 11 Shots on Target an xG of 4.05 while also creating 21 Chances with an xA of 3.33. He has risen in price by £0.5m and now sits at £6.0m but is still very much worth every penny.

Crystal Palace play Aston Villa (H) in Gameweek 13. The Villains have conceded 20 goals (18th) with an xGC of 18.7 (12th). However, they did keep a clean sheet last gameweek against Brighton in Steven Gerrard’s first game in charge. I do think Palace away will be a much trickier fixture, especially with the form they are in. It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

The Eagles have actually been good in the final third this season and Patrick Viera really looks to have changed the identity of this team. They have scored 18 goals (6th) with an xG of 16.1 (8th).

Gallagher is their top scorer and also Palace’s best FPL asset. He has the best underlying numbers when it comes to goal and assist threat in his team and is by far the best budget option in the game just now.

Emile Smith Rowe (£5.6m) – Arsenal

Fixture: Newcastle United (H)

Emile Smith Rowe has been another great value budget option. The English midfielder has four goals and two assists with 13 Shots in the Box, 10 Shots on Target with an xG of 1.97. He has also created 15 Chances, two Big Chances with an xA of 1.70.

Arsenal have a very plum fixture in Gameweek 13 as they welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates. The Toon have conceded 27 goals (20th), 108 Shots in the Box (14th), 62 Shots on Target (19th) and an xGC of 23.6 (19th).

They have been one of the worst defensive sides in the league and I don’t see their defence improving under new manager Eddie Howe. The 43-year-old is well known for his all-out attacking style of play from his years at Bournemouth.

Smith Rowe has one of the best fixtures of the season this week and the bookmakers also have the Gunners as the third favourites to score 2.5+ goals (31%).

He is also nailed to start and has the best stats from the Arsenal midfield.
