Who are the Best FPL Midfielders For Gameweek 5?
Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) – Manchester United
Fixture: West Ham United (a)
The Portuguese midfielder registered his first attacking return since Gameweek 1 with a scorcher of a goal against Newcastle United.
Much was made of his FPL value with Ronaldo coming in. However, to me, he still looked dangerous going forward and was involved in a lot of the attacking play.
Bruno has how registered 5 Shots in the Box, 2 Big Chances with an xG of 1.49. He has also created 8 Chances with 2 Big Chances and an xA of 1.31.
Manchester United face West Ham (a) in Gameweek 5. The Hammers have been quite solid at the back and been unfortunate to have conceded five goals.
Their xGC is 3.7 (5th in the entire division). They have only conceded 5 Big Chances (4th).
Nevertheless, United have a phenomenal attacking force and I cant see many teams keeping them at bay. The Red Devils have scored 11 goals so far (1st). Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side have registered 42 Shots in the Box (5th), 12 Big Chances (3rd) and an xG of 7.8 (4th).
According to our Points Prediction Tool, Bruno is at 54% to return anytime. Moreover, the bookmakers have United as the third most likely to score 2.5+ goals (27%) for Gameweek 5.
Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) – Liverpool
Fixture: Crystal Palace (H)
Mohamed Salah put up another great display in a 3-0 victory over Leeds United in Gameweek 4. That brings his tally to three goals and two assists in four games.
The Egyptian has recorded 13 Shots in the Box (3rd), 8 Shots on Target (1st) and an xG of 2.70 (4th). He has also created 12 Chances (4th), with an xA of 1.74 (3rd).
Liverpool come up against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 5. Despite Palace's impressive 3-0 victory over Spurs, this looks to be one of the standout fixtures of the week.
Jurgen Klopp's men boast the best attacking stats in the league. The Reds have scored 9 goals (3rd) with 34 Shots on Target (1st) and 70 Shots in the Box (1st). They have amassed 14 Big Chances (2nd) and an xG of 11.4 (1st).
Palace have actually been decent at the back. The Eagles have only conceded 24 Shots in the Box (5th), 14 Shots on Target (5th) and and xG of 3.8 (6th).
However, I just feel Liverpool are going to be too strong for them especially given the game is at Anfield.
We can see from Salah’s stats that he is still the best FPL option in the game. He will undoubtedly be one of the highest captained players this week.
The goalscoring winger is the highest predicted points scorer (8.2) for Gameweek 5 according to our Points Prediction Tool. The Reds are also second favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%) according to the bookmakers.
Raphinha (£6.5m) – Leeds United
Fixture: Newcastle United (a)
Raphinha hasn’t got off to the start a lot of FPL managers expected this season. He has one goal so far but two of his opening four games were against Manchester United (a) and Liverpool (H).
The Brazilian international has 11 Shots, 3 Shots in the Box, 2 Big Chances and an xG of 1.02. Meanwhile, he has also created 7 Chances, 1 Big Chance and an xA of 0.82.
Leeds United now embark on an excellent run of fixtures. This starts with Newcastle United (a) who have been the worst defensively to date.
The Toons have conceded 12 goals (20th), 42 Shots in the Box (15th), 24 Shots on Target (19th), 16 Big Chances (20th). They have accumulated an xGC of 10.5 (20th).
We know the Brazilian is a very talented player and one of the first names on Marcelo Bielsa’s team sheet. He is also more than likely to play 90 minutes every week and has done so in every game this season.
This looks like a plum fixture for Raphinha to get some more attacking returns. He plays in a very attack minded team and is one of the main creators. His stats from last season show that he offers great value at £6.5m.
Our Points Prediction Tool has him at 5.3 and he is also at a very healthy 58% for anytime returns.
Diogo Jota (£7.7m) – Liverpool
Fixture: Crystal Palace (H)
Jota is another great value option at only £7.7m. This is particularly the case now with fellow teammate Roberto Firmino (£8.8m) being injured.
He has two goals in three starts but really should have more attacking returns. The Portugal international has 9 Shots in the Box, 3 Big Chances and an xG of 1.86. He has also created 8 Chances, 2 Big Chances while registering an xA of 1.42.
His underlying stats genuinely merit a price tag of at least £9.0m. Now that he Jota pretty much guaranteed to start against Crystal Palace in Gameeweek 5, he is one of the best options this week.
As stated above, Liverpool have the best attacking numbers in the league. With Jota leading the line, he is too good an option to go without when he is guaranteed so many minutes.
Jota could very well have had two assists against Leeds United last week was it not for Sadio Mane’s (£11.9m) poor finishing.
Furthermore, Jota is at 51% to score anytime (3rd) according to the bookmakers. He is also fifth for predicted points (5.9) according to our Points Prediction Tool.
Our Fixture Ticker ranks Liverpool as having the second best fixture from an attacking perspective.
Ferran Torres (£7.2m) – Manchester City
Fixture: Southampton (H)
The Spanish international has started every game so far this season. He has scored two goals and registered one assist.
On top of that, he is also posting some impressive numbers. With 10 Shots in the Box and 3 Big Chances, Torres has an xG of 1.86 which is the highest among his teammates.
Now we all know it’s a dangerous game picking Manchester City attackers in our FPL teams. Yet sometimes a calculated risk has to be taken.
Pep Guardiola said that he will continue to pick the players who are performing well and. so far. he has been true to his word.
The fact that Torres played all three games in the international break and still started in Gameweek 4 should fill his owners with a bit of confidence.
Also, he is currently their best finisher which is why Pep has been playing him upfront. With Gabriel Jesus (£8.6m) being shifted to the wing, it seems Torres doesn’t have much competition in spearheading City’s attack.
Manchester City come up against Southampton at home in Gameweek 5. On paper, it looks like it should be a big win for the Citizens.
City have scored 11 goals (1st) with 56 Shots in the Box (2nd), 15 Big Chances (1st) and an xG of 10.3 (2nd).
It is very likely Guardiola's side will score a few in this game given their attacking talent. As a result, picking the player who is playing upfront for them could pay dividends. It's a huge bonus that he is only priced at £7.2m.
According to our Fixture Ticker, City have the best fixture this week for both attack and defence. The bookmakers have them favourites to score 2.5+ goals as well (53%).
