In this article, BigManBakar shares his best FPL Wildcard team for Gameweek 24, aimed at those Fantasy Premier Leagye managers looking to push the button this week.

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 24 – Goalkeepers

Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m)

Ramsdale is top for FPL points per game when it comes to goalkeepers since he started playing in Gameweek 4. He’s averaging a stellar 5.11 FPL points per game since then.

What helps Ramsdale is the fact that he’s playing behind a good defence which tends to concede lots of low xG shots. This allows him to provide the perfect combination of save and clean sheet points.

A word of caution though: he’s blanking in Gameweek 25 and 27, so you’ll need your bench cover for the weeks in which he misses out.

Robert Sánchez (£4.6m)

Sánchez has a great run of fixtures from Gameweek 25 and provides adequate cover for Ramsdale at a decent price. He has a Double Gameweek in 25 when Ramsdale blanks, and a decent fixture in Gameweek 27 as well when Ramsdale blanks again. The duo have good rotation and play for solid, reliable defences which Fantasy Premier League managers can count on.

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 24 – Defenders

Trent Alexander Arnold (£8.5m)

Alexander-Arnold is ranked first in the league among defenders for chances created, big chances created, expected assists (xA) and expected goal involvement (xGi) this season. What also helps him is that Liverpool are ranked second for xG conceded.

His ability to contribute at both ends of the field makes him one of the most explosive assets in the game.

I see no reason not to select him in a Wildcard draft – he is an automatic selection for me.

João Cancelo (£7.1m)

Manchester City are ranked top for xG conceded, big chances conceded, shots conceded and shots in the box conceded this season. They have already kept 12 clean sheets this season and as you can see from Fantasy Football Hub’s fixture ticker, they have a great fixture run coming up.

Cancelo is versatile enough to play on both flanks which adds to his appeal and has been one of Man City’s standout performers this season. Like Alexander-Arnold, he is a non-negotiable on Wildcard for me.

Fantasy Premier League Tips for Blank Gameweek 27 | FPL Tips 2021/22

Aymeric Laporte (£5.8m)

I like the idea of doubling up on the Man City defence because of the reasons mentioned above. Cancelo is owned by the significant majority of “serious” FPL managers anyway, so this is where you can actually gain from Man City’s defence doing well when it comes to effective ownership.

Laporte has started all of Man City’s previous nine Premier League matches and has been first choice this season. He’s priced at £5.7m, which is £0.6m cheaper than his fellow team-mate Rúben Dias.

Rayan Aït-Nouri (£4.3m)

Wolves have a double Gameweek in 26 and also potentially another double in Gameweek 27. They are also one of the rare teams who are not blanking in Gameweek 30. Aït-Nouri is cheap and the most attacking of the Wolves defenders. Wolves have a rigid defence as well which makes me think that he could represent good value in the coming weeks.

Lucas Digne (£5.1m)

Digne has been a favourite of Fantasy Premier League managers in the past but hasn’t quite hit the same heights this season. In a recent interview, this is what he said regarding his recent form:

“The manager asked me to be more of a defender this season, to stay back a bit more and keep a better balance for the team. My first job is to defend, I am a left-back. If what you are being asked to do is for the good of the team, that is it, the end of the discussion. You do the job the manager wants.”

It’s fairly evident that Digne wasn’t given the freedom to express himself under former boss Benítez. However, under Gerrard that is unlikely to be the case. Even historically at Rangers, Gerrard’s left back and right back accumulated 14 and 7 attacking returns in 20/21 from open play respectively.

He’s playing a 4-3-2-1 at Villa where the likes of Philippe Coutinho (£7.0m) and Emiliano Buendia (£6.2m) are likely to play as the inside forwards, with the full backs likely to provide the width and bomb forward. He’s already registered an assist in one of his two starts for Villa and passed the eye test.

Coming to the Villa defence, they have kept just three clean sheets in 10 matches under Gerrard so far, but it’s worth noting that they have faced some of the better attacks in the league in Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool and Leicester during this spell.

Despite the tough opposition they have faced, they are ranked sixth for non-penalty xG conceded which I believe is fairly impressive. The real litmus test will come once they face the easier opposition around them which they are due to face in the coming weeks. There is also the slight possibility of Villa having Double Gameweek in Gameweek 27 and they are due to play Arsenal in Gameweek 30 when most teams blank.

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 24 – Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m)

With Egypt having qualified for the African Cup of Nations final, Salah’s minutes for Gameweek 24 are uncertain. Further, captaincy won’t be a factor for Salah in Gameweek 25 either, with Man United having a Double Gameweek. I would go with Fernandes with a view of swapping him to Salah in Gameweek 26.

Gabriel Martinelli (£5.4m)

Since Martinelli’s introduction to the Arsenal first team in Gameweek 14, he is averaging 0.6 xGi per game which is very impressive for someone of his price.

Arsenal are ranked in the top five for xG per game over the past 10 gameweeks and have been posting encouraging attacking numbers. I’d want at least one of their attackers for their Double Gameweek in Gameweek 26 despite the blanks in Gameweek 25 and 27.

Phil Foden (£8.0m)

Man City are ranked as the bookies’ favourites to score 2.5+ goals in each of the next two gameweeks. They face Brentford and Norwich during this spell so I’d definitely want a piece of the Man City attacking pie.

Foden is the one who is likely to represent the greatest value. At just £8.0m, he presents a cut-price route into the City attack. What helps him is that he can either play as the false nine or on the left, so his versatility gives him a better chance of starting most games.

The problem with the Man City attackers is that points are usually spread, with there being no apparent talisman. Foden has the highest goal involvement % compared to any other Man City player (26% as opposed to De Bruyne’s 22% and Bernardo’s 20%) this season which makes him an excellent option over the coming weeks.

Diogo Jota (£8.4m)

There is a thought to sell Jota on the Wildcard with Andy Robertson (£7.1m) back on the menu (he’s first for big chances created and chances created among defenders over the past six matches) but I still think Jota could have a role to play in our squads.

The signing of Luis Díaz (£8.0m) and the return from injury of Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) does make things tricky, but Jota is such great value that I think he’s still a good player to own even if he misses the odd game.

Jota is ranked second for xG (only behind Salah!) this season which makes him a great asset to own.

Best FPL Players For Gameweek 24 | Fantasy Premier League Tips 2021/22

Jarrod Bowen (£6.9m)

No player in the league has scored more FPL points than Bowen over the last four gameweeks. He is averaging approximately nine FPL points per game. Need I say more?

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 24 – Forwards

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m)

His recent form hasn’t been the greatest but I’d definitely pick Ronaldo in my Wildcard team.

Despite Rangnick’s underwhelming start at Man United, Ronaldo is still ranked second for xG per 90 among forwards (only behind Kane) since the German has taken over. He could miss one of the games in the Double Gameweek but I don’t think that would put me off from selecting him before Gameweek 25.

Odsonne Édouard

Édouard has been in good form recently having registered seven attacking returns over the past six matches. His underlying numbers have been encouraging as well – only Kane among forwards has a better xG per 90 than him in that spell.
