Best FPL Wildcard Team for Double Gameweek 26 – Goalkeepers

Aaron Ramsdale (£5.1m)

Ramsdale is the keeper to own over the coming weeks. Since he has started playing from Gameweek 4, he is averaging 5.3 pts per match which is higher than any other keeper in that spell.

Arsenal have a favourable Double Gameweek 26 and a Double Gameweek in Gameweek 29 too. Brentford have five goals in their last nine matches while Wolves are expected to be defensive away from home. They also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 30.

Nick Pope (£5.4m)

Burnley are the only team in the league who have a Double Gameweek both in 26 and 27. They also have a decent chance of having a fixture scheduled in Gameweek 30. This automatically makes their assets more appealing.

Burnley have reverted to type in recent times – they have become more solid defensively but are lacking potency up front. In their previous nine matches, they have scored just three times but kept four clean sheets. In fact, they have conceded just thrice in Pope’s last seven matches.

Pope, in my opinion, is easily the best option in the Burnley defence. He has the best baseline bonus per minutes ratio, so whenever Burnley are to keep a clean sheet, Pope has a big chance of hauling. This is down to the fact that due to Burnley’s playing style, their defenders have a low pass completion percentage while Pope gets to make a lot of saves.

If you buy him this week, Pope is a good long option till the time you use your second Wildcard.

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 26 – Defenders

Trent Alexander Arnold (£8.5m)

Alexander-Arnold is a lock for me on Wildcard. He is ranked first in the league among defenders for chances created, big chances created, expected assists (xA) and expected goal involvement (xGi) this season.

João Cancelo (£7.2m)

Manchester City are ranked top for xG conceded, big chances conceded, shots conceded and shots in the box conceded this season. They have already kept 14 clean sheets this season. Despite the fact that they don’t have a Double Gameweek anytime soon, Cancelo is still a bit of a no-brainer to pick – Man City are just that good.

Andy Robertson (£7.1m)

It’s been going under the radar but since Gameweek 13, Robertson has been averaging an incredible 7.9 FPL points per game.

Jota’s injury opens up a Liverpool slot and I think Robertson is the best choice. Liverpool are a top side and they play Norwich and Leeds in Double Gameweek 26, with another Double Gameweek in Gameweek 29. Upside doesn’t get really bigger than that.

Robertson’s underlying numbers have been really good as well. Over the past six matches, he’s first for key passes, penalty area touches and touches in the final third. He also ranks second for xGI and big chances created.

I prefer Robertson to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino because he’s not as susceptible to rotation as the other two but is significantly cheaper and has a similar FPL points ceiling.

There’s also the fact that Norwich are third for most chances conceded from set pieces while Liverpool have scored most goals from set plays in the league and have the highest xG from set play.

That benefits Robertson who is on some set pieces. This not only helps his chance creation but also allows him to accumulate bonus more quickly.

The bookmakers think very highly of Robertson as well. Liverpool have been given the highest chance of keeping two clean sheets according to the odds this week. Robertson is projected to be the most likely assister after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne too.

Ben Mee (£4.8m)

This selection is based purely on the basis of the number of doubles that Burnley have to be rescheduled. Both of Burnley’s Double Gameweek 27 opponents, Leicester and Crystal Palace, are in the top four sides for most set pieces conceded this season, so there’s an outside chance of Mee getting a goal or two.

Max Kilman (£4.6m)

Wolves have a Double Gameweek in 26, a great Double Gameweek in 28 and are guaranteed a fixture in Gameweek 30. Their upcoming run of fixtures is favourable while in general, Wolves have a rigid defence which makes me think that he could represent good value in the coming weeks. In fact, only Man City have conceded fewer goals from open play than Wolves this season.

I’ve opted for Kilman as he is completely nailed – he has played every minute in the league for Wolves so far this season and has decent goal threat from set pieces.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m)

He’s Mo Salah. Need I say anything more?

Jacob Ramsey (£4.7m)

No Villa player has had more big chance involvements than Ramsey since Gerrard has taken over. He’s playing as the most advanced of the midfield three and making late runs into the box like his manager in his prime.

There are a lot of things to like about Ramsey. He’s extremely cheap so allows for significant upgrades in your squad elsewhere. Secondly, Villa have a great run of fixtures. Thirdly, Villa do not blank in Gameweek 27 or 30 when a lot of other teams in the league have Blank Gameweeks.

Bukayo Saka (£6.4m)

Arsenal’s upcoming favourable Double Gameweek in 26 and their Double Gameweek in Gameweek 29 is the reason I have opted for Saka. I believe he could offer a potentially high upside. With Gabriel Martinelli off the table for now, Saka is the Arsenal midfielder to get.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.7m)

Mahrez is in great form recently and has cemented himself in Pep Guardiola’s first 11. With the Champions League knockout game against Sporting Lisbon all but sealed, Guardiola can continue to play his best 11 in the league in the coming weeks.

With penalties in his locker, Mahrez has the potential to go big.

Jarrod Bowen (£7.0m)

No player in the league has scored more FPL points than Bowen over the last eight gameweeks. It would be silly to drop him from your squads in this form.

Best FPL Wildcard Team for Gameweek 26 – Forwards

Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3m)

Besides Liverpool, Arsenal have the most appealing Double Gameweek fixtures this weekend, and also have a Double Gameweek scheduled in Gameweek 29.

Lacazette has the best expected goal involvement (xGi) per 90 among forwards after Kane over the past eight matches, and is clearly Arsenal’s main attacking threat in terms of underlying numbers. Not too many people are talking about him but he is the most underperforming forward in terms of xG in that spell – he has two goals but his xG suggests that he should have scored between five to six goals.

He also has the extra security of penalties to fall upon if need be.

The bookmakers have given Lacazette a healthy 42% of scoring this Gameweek, which makes him the most likely Arsenal goalscorer according to the odds.

Wout Weghorst (£6.5m)

Weghorst is a bit of an unknown commodity when it comes to the Premier League at the moment, but his goal scoring record in Germany has been prolific. He is known to be a bit of a poacher and had an impressive average xG of 0.5 per game during that time.

He’s a nailed starter and could possibly be on penalties. With the lack of forwards firing at the moment, Weghorst might be worth the punt just for the sheer reason alone that Burnley have back to back Double Gameweeks coming up in 26 and 27.

He is guaranteed to play more minutes than his counterparts. Expectations need to be kept realistic though, as it’s Burnley we’re talking about!

Raul Jimenez (£7.4m)

Jimenez’s underlying numbers aren’t great, but he has two goals in his previous three fixtures and good fixtures between now and Gameweek 30, including two Double Gameweeks. I fancy him against Leicester this weekend – no team has a worse xG conceded in the past six matches.
