Brentford twice beat Manchester City on the way to securing a top-half league finish last season &#8211; here, we preview the Bees&#8217; FPL and wider fantasy football prospects for the 2023/24 campaign.

<h2>Brentford stats and best players</h2>
Brentford came up from the Championship two seasons ago, finishing 13th in their first taste of Premier League action.
They improved further in 2022/23, ending the season in ninth, and beat champions City home and away.
Their 1-0 home win against the Sky Blues on the last day of the season was a fitting conclusion &#8211; and achieved without talisman Toney, who had been banned until January for breaches of FA betting rules.
The Bees&#8217; <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a> backed up their top-half showing. They ranked inside the top ten for both goals scored and conceded, although their defence significantly outperformed their <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/a-simple-guide-to-opta-stats-for-fpl">expected goals conceded (xGC)</a>.

<h3>2022/23 season best players</h3>
Toney finished the season with 20 league goals, the third-highest total in the league, behind Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
He was an integral part of Thomas Frank&#8217;s team, adding four assists and being involved in 51% of the Bees&#8217; goals while on the pitch. Only Kane had a higher goal involvement percentage.
Fellow forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa added nine and seven goals respectively, with the former Brentford&#8217;s chief creator with nine assists.
Toney&#8217;s goalscoring was combined with a solid defence. They kept 12 clean sheets, with goalkeeper David Raya among their star performers.
The Spaniard made the most saves in the league (154), helping him to earn the more bonus points (20) than any other shot-stopper.
Ethan Pinnock and Ben Mee were reliable at the back, while both contributed further forward too, scoring three each.

<h2>Brentford predicted lineup for FPL Gameweek 1</h2>

Brentford typically use either a 5-3-2 or 4-3-3 formation, largely depending on their opponents.
As things stand though, here is how Brentford&#8217;s starting 11 could look:

Raya&#8217;s potential move away from the Gtech Community Stadium opens the door for new signing Mark Flekken in goal, although Thomas Strakosha could have a say. Flekken has been the go-to in pre-season.
The Bees may strengthen up front, given Toney is not eligible to play again until January 17, 2024.
Brennan Johnson was reportedly the subject of two bids &#8211; but at the time of writing, he was no closer to leaving Nottingham Forest.
Toney missed the last three games of the season. In two of the three &#8211; versus West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur, Frank used a 4-3-3 and played Mbeumo, Wissa and Kevin Schade in the forward positions.
Mbeumo and Wissa played against City, when the 5-3-2 was used.
The duo scored five goals between them against West Ham and Spurs, giving Frank hope his squad could cope without their star man.
But Brentford have limited options in attack, especially if playing a 4-3-3, while 21-year-old Schade has yet to score in 729 minutes of Premier League football.
Forward Halil Dervisoglu featured early in pre-season but has now joined Galatasary. Keane Lewis-Potter has racked up minutes and could challenge Schade for a starting spot.
Depth is less of a concern in midfield, with Mikkel Damsgaard, Josh Dasilva, Shandon Baptiste and Frank Onyeka among the alternatives to Mathias Jensen, Christian Norgaard and Vitaly Janelt.
Norgaard could miss out through an Achilles problem however, leaving the way open for the likes of Dasilva, who scored a wonder goal in the <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-pre-season-results-guide">United States</a>.
In defence, Mads Roerslev is often seen at right wing-back if the Bees line up in a 5-3-2, while Mathias Jorgensen (Zanka) is an alternative in central defence. Rico Henry is a sure starter on the left.
Pontus Jansson has left the club, returning to his native Sweden. Nathan Collins has completed a £23m move from Wolves &#8211; and given the outlay, he must be in the frame for plenty of starts.

Toney&#8217;s ban could benefit Mbeumo, with the Cameroon international set to take on penalty duties.
Toney was also the Bees&#8217; main direct free-kick taker, leaving another gap to fill. Jensen and Mbeumo could share responsibilities.

<h2>Brentford stats for Sky, TFF and Sun Dream Team</h2>
Sky Sports Fantasy Football awards bonus points for passing, tackles, shots and saves. Players are awarded two or three extra points for 60/70 passes, four/five tackles, two/three shots on target and three/five saves.
In Sky, centre-backs and defensive midfielders are the ones who tend to pick up passing bonus most often. Tackles tend to come from full-backs and defensive midfielders.
Tackles are also a factor in Telegraph Fantasy Football for midfielders, who are awarded a point for every two tackles. Goalkeepers get one extra point for every save made.
And in Dream Team, the 2023/24 game has had a complete revamp. There&#8217;s no longer Star Man and WhoScored ratings, while a new bonus system is in play &#8211; see our guide <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/how-to-play-dream-team-fantasy-football-2">here</a> for full details.

Brentford players have not been ones to pick up passing bonus in Sky. Ben Mee managed it just three times.
Norgaard was a reliable source of tackle bonus in Brentford&#8217;s first season in the Premier League, however he was limited to 22 appearances this time. He picked up Sky tackle bonus five times.
Jensen matched Norgaard for tackle bonus, although he made 37 appearances.
Aside from Toney, who 23 points in shot bonuses, Raya was the main point of interest from a Sky perspective. The goalkeeper was joint-third highest bonus scorer, level with Virgil van Dijk on 74.
