Gameweek 11 Results

I will start this week’s article off with a staggering statistic  - After 11 league games, Sheffield United now have the same number of clean sheets as Liverpool, Spurs, and Chelsea combined. Again a testament to how unpredictable this season has started off. The Blades again kept a clean sheet in a solid performance against Burnley where they conceded no shots on target (SoTc) and only one big chance conceded (BCc). They now have the most shut outs in the league, joint with Manchester City (5) after 11 GW’s. Lundstram owners will be calling for the English midfielder (yes that’s right he is a midfielder wrongly classed as a defender by FPL) to receive a Knighthood after his Lampard-esque brace.

The ‘Big Dogs’ Manchester City and Liverpool again conceded despite being the top two.  It doesn’t get much better fixtures wise against Southampton and Aston Villa. As a TAA owner it's getting increasingly frustrating watching him nearly get a monster score each week. Brighton and Leicester's clean sheets were not surprising really. Norwich have been the whipping boys as of late and Leicester are a solid defensive unit under Rodgers. Bournemouth was a bit of a surprise, but at the same time, it wasn’t as has been the disparity in performances with Man United. You just don’t know what mood they will turn up in. The Cherries have now recorded back to back clean sheets. They have definitely improved defensively from last season but it seems to come at the expense of attack. Josh King’s goal in the 45th minute against the Red Devils was their first in 315 minutes of football.

Gameweek 12 Clean sheets

It’s a funny week on paper for clean sheets for GW12. With Manchester City and Liverpool going head to head, it leaves Manchester United with a rare appearance for favourites for a clean sheet. They play Brighton though who have have been playing well lately coming off two impressive wins against Norwich and Everton. Chelsea are in second and seem like a rejuvenated side under Frank Lampard. Although the 4-4 draw with Ajax midweek will be a bit worrying for any managers with their defenders they were quite unlucky to concede against Watford who were awarded a dubious penalty via VAR. They play Crystal Palace who sit in an impressive ninth place, however, they have only scored 10 goals. The only teams they have scored more than are bottom of the table Watford and Newcastle. I am sure Lampard will be concentrating on shoring up their defence after the Ajax game so I am actually quite confident this week as a Tomori owner. Chelsea defensively have been impressive this seasons and their xGC (13.79) compared to how many goals they have actually conceded (17) tells us they have actually been quite unlucky. They currently have the sixth best record for SitBc (65), and second best for SoTc (34), only behind Liverpool.

Sheffield United who as I stated early have the most clean sheets this season are down at 17% as they play Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The North London club will be boosted by Son’s overturned red card but I feel will still find it tough to break down a well drilled side who are third best for SoTc (37) behind Chelsea and Liverpool. They are also seventh for SitBc (71).
