Essential Aston Villa FPL Stats | Defensive Numbers
The obvious place to start with Aston Villa is in their superstar goalkeeper Emiliagoat Martinez (£5.5m) and his league high 143 saves last season.
His contribution, in addition to the team blocking the 3rd most shots (159), gave Aston Villa the best over-performance in the expected goals allowed delta last season (-5.83). Martinez had the second highest xGP (expected goals allowed minus actual goals conceded) with 3.70.
If Martinez can limit his tally of 3rd most saves parried to the opposition (27) there could be even more clean sheets in store for Aston Villa this season.
Dean Smith‘s men could have an easier time of it this season if they can cut down on their joint 2nd most red cards (5) from last season too.
Essential Aston Villa FPL Stats | Attacking Numbers
On the attacking side of the ball, no team created more chances from their left (166) or had more crosses in opponent’s half from the left (431).
Aston Villa also had the joint second-most chances from counter attacks (24). Finally, Jack Grealish (£8.0m) being the most fouled player in the league gives Villa the most attempts from set pieces (142).
The Villains’ attack should do well against teams who are vulnerable in the box. Aston Villa had the 4th most shots in the box (344) last season and they have improved their attack this off-season.
They have added a creative element in Emiliano Buendia (£6.5m), which should make their attack less predictable provided they can keep Grealish.
