<h2><strong>Essential Burnley FPL Stats | Attacking Numbers</strong></h2>
<p>Burnley at the end of the 2020/21 season was not a Burnley I&#8217;ve ever seen.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know if they will resort to the defensive solidity that earned them a cursed berth in the <strong>Europa League</strong>, or the Burncelona we saw at the end of last season.</p>
<p>Their <strong><a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a></strong> are equally confusing. Burnley attempted the <strong>6<sup>th</sup> most crosses (772)</strong> and had the <strong>5<sup>th</sup> lowest successful cross completion (19.7%)</strong>.</p>
<p>Interestingly, <strong>the Clarets</strong> are one of eight teams whose pass percentage improved in the final third. Of those eight, they had the 2<sup>nd</sup> best improvement <strong>(4.4%)</strong>.</p>
<p>They had <strong>the most unsuccessful passes</strong> last season and, unsurprisingly, the <strong>fewest assists</strong> of non-relegated teams (20). To me, these numbers are quite the indychement (if you’ll forgive the dad joke).</p>

<h2><strong>Essential Burnley FPL Stats | Defensive Numbers</strong></h2>
<p>It will come as no surprise that Burnley had the <strong>most blocked shots</strong> last season <strong>(180)</strong>. That&#8217;s 20 more than the next most. It&#8217;s evident in the eye test and <strong>confirmed by the <a href="https://cms.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/opta/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="FPL Stats by OPTA - Player and Team Stats">stats</a></strong>.</p>
<p>The effect of blocked shots is interesting when looking at its effect on <strong>expected goals allowed (xGA)</strong>. Burnley had an xGA of <strong>55.56</strong> last season. Their <strong>xG on Target Allowed (xGoTA)</strong> was only <strong>49.3</strong>.</p>
<p>That means Burnley got in the way and changed play enough to <strong>take away 6.26 xG</strong> (xGoTC 49.3 &#8211; xGC 55.56) over the course of the season when a shot was on target.</p>
<p>This may not seem like much, but I find it to be partially indicative of defensive performance and if expectations of the opposition should be tempered.</p>
<p>The problem for Burnley, however, is the <strong>number of chances they conceded</strong> last season. <strong>Burnley conceded more chances than any other team</strong> including the relegated teams <strong>(454)</strong>. This is how most of them occurred:</p>
<ul>
<li>5<sup>th</sup> most headed goal attempts conceded (91)</li>
<li>3rd most chances conceded from the right side (141)</li>
<li>2<sup>nd</sup> most chances conceded from the center (167)</li>
<li>most chances conceded from the left (146).</li>

<p>All this being said, a cold night at <strong>Turf Moor</strong> without fans is not the same as with the fans.</p>
<p>We will have to wait and see if their defence is awakened by the fans, but they present a nice matchup for any attack that relies on number of opportunities rather than the precision of a few opportunities.</p>
