Euro 2020 Fantasy Football Tips – Groups E and F
In his third edition of The Preview for the Euros, Bakar previews all teams in Euro 2020 Groups E and F.
Group E – Spain Euro 2020 Preview
I don’t think that games involving Spain will be too high scoring with their possession-based style of play. They could be frustrated by even the lesser teams in the tournament because of late they have struggled against deep blocks.
There are plenty of bargains within the squad though. Keep an eye on the goalkeeper – there are rumours that Sánchez could be first choice due to his ball distribution abilities. If he is, he could represent incredible value.
Laporte will definitely start but who starts with him again is likely to be a bargain. On paper, Pau Torres should have that slot nailed due to his recent form with Villareal but that would mean that Spain start with two left footed centre backs which would be odd. Eric Garcia is the other alternative that Spain have.
Alba is topping the charts for attacking returns among defenders after World Cup 2018 so he is the one who has upside and is still worth it despite his premium price tag.
Up front, whoever starts between Morata and Moreno is likely to be a good pick but it’s tough to predict who starts. Olmo and Torres are likely to be the wingers and I like both – Olmo has impressed in international colours recently being one of Spain’s best players while Torres has five goals in his previous four Spain appearances.
Group E – Poland Euro 2020 Preview
Poland manager Paulo Sousa likes playing with wing backs so expect so a three at the back formation flanked by wing backs.
From the defence, I believe Glik is extremely overpriced due to his reputation while Bednarek is the one who offers most value. He is nailed to start as part of the back three. Rybus, the left wing back, is worth a mention too. He is likely to be on all set pieces and playing in an advanced position.
I do rate the Polish defence – they have recently shut some strong teams out and are coming on the back of seven clean sheets in 10 games in the qualifiers.
Zielinski has been on form domestically for Napoli but his international underlying numbers aren’t great – he recorded no big chance involvements in his nine appearances in the Euro qualifiers.
Lewandowski’s record speaks for himself. He’s coming on the back of a Bundesliga season where he scored 41 goals in 29 matches for Bayern in the league – truly phenomenal. He was top among all Polish players for chances created and had double the number of big chances than any other Polish player in the qualifiers – that too despite missing a few games. He is simply a monster.
Group E – Sweden Euro 2020 Preview
With Zlatan ruled out, Isak and Berg are likely to start up front. The duo along with Forsberg are the ones who warrant fantasy attention from the whole squad.
I wouldn’t pick a defender as I don’t think they represent value with slightly inflated price tags.
Isak is coming on the back of a great season where he’s had 19 goal involvements with Sociedad. Him and Forsberg were second only to Berg for big chance involvements among Swedish players in the qualifiers.
Forsberg has been given a free role in the side is on set pieces. He would be my pick from the Swedish team if I had to pick one given his involvement and his price tag. I don’t think he is on penalties though – Seb Larsson is likely to take penalties if he starts.
Group E – Slovakia Euro 2020 Preview
Slovakia come into this tournament having one of the worst goals per game conceded ratio of all the teams to have qualified during the Euro qualifiers. I believe they will struggle to keep clean sheets. Dubravka is cheap if you want a filler.
Also the fact that they had one of the lowest xG’s from the teams to have qualified makes me think that they will struggle to score goals.
Hamsik registered zero big chance involvements in the qualifiers hence is not worth the premium price tag.
Both Kucka and Duda had decent seasons domestically but I think there are better picks worth considering.

Group F – Portugal Euro 2020 Preview
Portugal are expected to lineup in a 4-3-3.
Bernardo Silva hasn’t really been relevant for FPL purposes this season, but I believe he could have a big part to play during the Euros. He created on average, over one big chance per game during the Euro qualifiers and is integral to Portugal’s team style. He was second only to Ronaldo for shots in the box and penalty area touches. He accumulated on average, almost eight penalty area touches per game which you don’t really get to see from him at club level.
Jota is expected to play on the left and I believe either of these two could represent more value for money than Bruno Fernandes, who recorded just two assists and a goal during the qualifiers.
Ronaldo is the main man, on penalties and an absolute stat-hogger so the less said about him the better.
Portugal have decent odds for a clean sheet in Matchday 1 but in general I’d avoid the defences of all teams in this group all together.
Keep an eye on Nuno Mendes in the friendlies, he has played some games recently and there is a slight chance he can take Guerreiro’s left back spot in the starting 11.
Group F – France Euro 2020 Preview
It’s hard to find bargains when I look at that French team – understandably too because they are World Cup winners. Kimpembe being cheaper than the rest of the defenders is the one I like in defence.
Griezmann, Mbappe and Benzema are all worth considering in their own right. Griezmann was the French player with the highest number of big chance involvements in the Euro qualifiers while Mbappe even during his limited gametime (just four starts) was averaging more than a big chance involvement per game.
Who takes penalties is unclear but Griezmann is on set pieces while Mbappe is coming on the back of a season where he’s had 34 goal involvements for PSG.
France are expected to lineup in a diamond formation so I’d expect Griezmann to play at the tip with Benzema and Mbappe up front. Benzema himself is coming on the back of a season where he’s had 32 goal involvements for Madrid so it’s fair to say that France are stacked with attacking prowess.
Group F – Germany Euro 2020 Preview
I believe Germany will be largely overlooked because of the group they are in. They haven’t been in great form over the years, but this will be Löw’s last tournament and they are expected to lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Müller will be making a return to the national team and is coming on the back of a good season where he’s registered 29 goal involvements in the Bundesliga. He’s likely to play behind the striker.
Leroy Sane is likely to play on the left but I believe he will be prone to getting hooked early. Serge Gnabry is the one I like the most. He was comfortably top among all German players for shots in the box, penalty area touches and big chances in the qualifiers.
Their defence has been a bit dodgy over the years, and I wouldn’t want to be starting with a Germany defender as they play France and Portugal in the first two weeks. Better assets out there worth backing.
Group F – Hungary Euro 2020 Preview
I will try and keep this short as I believe most of you will not be considering any of these assets due to Hungary being in the “Group of Death”.
Nego is cheap and likely to start at the right wing back. If you want a filler in your squad, he could do the business as I expect him to get minutes. You shouldn’t be expecting much at his price really!
Dzsudzsak and Szoboszlai were the top two chance creators for Hungary during the Euro qualifiers so in their absence, they may struggle for goals.
