Everton stats and best players

Everton finished the 2023/24 season in 15th position, however their results were actually good enough for 12th.

The Toffees were deducted 10 points in November for breaching profit and sustainability rules, a penalty that was reduced to six on appeal in February.

But a further two points was added on in April when they were found guilty of a second breach.

Sean Dyche’s men were without a win in their first five league games but finished the season stronger, losing just one of their last six.

And they looked like a classic Dyche team in their first full season under the former Burnley manager.

Everton kept the joint-second most clean sheets in the league, 13, the same number as Manchester City.

Their top-four best goals conceded record was crucial given their struggles in front of goal.

They ranked 19th for goals scored (40), some way behind their expected goals (xG) of 55.89. It was the second season running that only one team found the net fewer times than them.

Jordan Pickford was the standout Everton player given their defensive record, making 121 saves (seventh).

It was a breakthrough season for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who scored three and assisted one.

There was little to celebrate in attack. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored seven but lagged behind his 12.86 xG and failed to capitalise on having the most big chances among his teammates (21).

Abdoulaye Doucoure recorded the same goals total, with an xG of 8.7, while Dwight McNeil assisted eight – more than double any other player.

Everton predicted lineup for FPL Gameweek 1

For our final predicted lineups, see our team news article ahead of the deadline.

This will be particularly important when it comes to Everton, with a number of players working their way back from injury at the time of writing.

But below, we take a look at a provisional Everton predicted starting 11.

Everton predicted starting 11

Pickford was involved in the Euro 2024 final and has yet to report for pre-season training. Joao Virginia would deputise if he was not ready for Gameweek 1.

Branthwaite attracted interest from Manchester United but the Toffees’ transfer fee demand has reportedly put the Red Devils off.

He is among the players working their way back to match fitness, Dyche has confirmed, but would need to play some late pre-season minutes to be in with a shout of starting in Gameweek 1.

James Tarkowsi and Vitalii Mykolenko are starting defenders but both have had fitness issues. Highly rated Jake O’Brien could force his way into the team depending on injuries or should Branthwaite leave.

In midfield, new signing Iliman Ndiaye could create a selection headache.

Doucoure would have to be benched or move further back to accommodate Ndiaye in his preferred position.

But his performances in the number 10 role last season could see Dyche leave things as they are, while Idrissa Gueye and James Garner are regulars in central midfield.

Garner was the latest player to pick up an injury in a recent friendly and Tim Iroegbunam will provide support in this area.

Ndiaye could operate out wide or even up front but may need to wait to break into the starting 11.

Everton set-piece takers

The Hub keeps a track on all set-piece takers on our dedicated set-piece page.

A summary of Everton’s likely set-piece takers is below.

Beto missed his only spot-kick, which was awarded while Calvert-Lewin was off the pitch.

McNeil and Garner shared the majority of corners and free-kicks, while Garner took the most direct free-kicks ahead of Young.

Penalties: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto

Direct free kicks: James Garner, Dwight McNeil

Corners/indirect free-kicks: Dwight McNeil, James Garner

Aerial threats: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Tarkowski, Beto, Abdoulaye Doucoure

Everton stats for Telegraph and Dream Team

Sky Sports Fantasy Football is not running in 2024/25, leaving us to focus more fully on Telegraph and Dream Team in this section.

Telegraph bonus rules

Midfielders are awarded one bonus point for every two tackles they make per game.

Goalkeepers earn one extra point for every two saves, providing a source of extra points for the busiest shot-stoppers.

Dream Team bonus rules

Sun Dream Team had a complete revamp last season, with a new bonus point system created.

Players can earn one, three or five extra points, with the system taking into account various metrics including pass completion rates, accurate crosses, successful dribbles and interceptions.

Shots, tackles and saves are also a factor in Dream Team game.

All players get one point for every two tackles and there’s one point for every two saves a goalkeeper makes. A shot on target earns one point.

And each big chance created is also rewarded with an extra point.

How are Everton likely to perform for bonus points?

Pickford’s saves and clean sheets make him a potential option in Telegraph and Dream Team.

But there was little else to celebrate last season among the Everton squad.

McNeil was joint-12th best for Dream Team bonus points, however Tarkowski scored two more points overall (201).

Gueye managed 96 tackles for Telegraph purposes, the fourth highest total.

The leaders in the key bonus categories are below:

Saves: Pickford (3.18)

Tackles: Gueye (2.92), Mykolenko (2.46), Garner (2.44)

Shots on target: Calvert-Lewin (1.04)

Big chances created (total): McNeil (17)

Dream Team bonus point leaders: McNeil (41), Garner (38)

Jordan Pickford
