Who is the best FPL Blank Gameweek 29 captain? Our resident FPL captaincy expert Chris Tan takes a close look at the fixtures, poll and stats breakdown before concluding on his best pick for the armband.

FPL Gameweek 28 Recap

The Challengers – Man United took a vital three points from top four challenger and Leicester destroyed Sheffield United post Wilder. Both sides are eager to cement their top four status whilst Chelsea dropped points against Leeds. The Elite – Fulham have been defensively solid recently, and it speaks volumes that Man City rotated seven players and still blew them away 3-0. Jota (£6.6m) has returned, and he scored against his old side to get Liverpool back on track, although they are five points outside of the top four. The Premiums – they either didn’t play or they blanked. This was a terrible week for the premiums. Who to target – Sheffield United look dead and buried now, but they appear to be the only obvious side to target. The mid-table sides don’t appear to be on the beach yet (maybe when the vaccines are more prevalent) and the bottom sides are in a desperate relegation fight.

FPL Gameweek 29 Captain - Our Performance

We won’t dwell too much on last week, as it was a disaster for the majority of options, but we will celebrate the top choice getting back on track and how it was prudent to avoid City:
Although the City boys top the charts, there’s too much uncertainty around their starting lineup on the eve of their Champions League game, and I don’t think Fulham is an easy fixture. Therefore, we default to the next lowest score, which is Vardy (£10.2m). He hasn’t done much since he returned from injury, and he’s less of a threat when paired with Iheanacho. However, Leicester won’t be as fatigued without the Europa League games,  Sheffield United are the weakest side in the league by far and Vardy will get chances. He’s on penalties and has an excellent record against them.

FPL Gameweek 29 Captain - Player Record

I haven’t reviewed the Championship clashes between Fulham and Leeds because this Fulham side is completely different. Raphinha (£5.6m) wasn’t playing for Leeds in the reverse fixture.
  • Bamford (£6.7m) is likely to recover in time and picked up 14 points in just 69 minutes for the reverse fixture. However, Fulham are a different team to the side that started the season.
  • Kane (£11.4m) scored a brace in a home game last season. He was injured for the other game, but the two times he’s played Villa away he’s scored a goal and a brace.
  • Maupay (£6.1m) has an excellent record, however all of his returns are from the solitary reverse fixture. If you’re on a free hit there are worse punts…
  • Aubameyang’s (£11.4m) tends to assist more than he scores against West Ham.
The records of the other players aren't worth discussing.
