Erling Haaland missed the weekend’s Premier League action through injury but there was still plenty to discuss – here is our FPL Gameweek 14 review.

We take a look back at the highlights of the week from a fantasy perspective, from the top points scorers to a look at some key statistics.

We also review the top of the overall FPL leaderboard and how the Premier League stars themselves are doing as fantasy managers.

Who were the top points scorers in FPL Gameweek 14?

The top-three points scorers so far this gameweek were:

Reiss Nelson (£4.8m) – 19 points
Callum Wilson (£7.4m) – 19 points
Kieffer Moore (£5.4m) – 13 points

The FPL team of the week, managed by Bilel Ghorbel, scored 134 points, courtesy of a triple-captained Wilson and a stellar Newcastle backup of Miguel Almiron (£5.6m) and Kieran Trippier (£5.8m).

His team did not include super substitute Nelson, though. The Arsenal midfielder scored two and assisted one after replacing the injured Bukayo Saka (£8.0m) in Arsenal’s 5-0 hammering of Nottingham Forest.

Nelson’s score of 19 points matched that of Wilson, who scored two and assisted two in the Magpies’ 4-0 defeat of Aston Villa.

The match saw Almiron score his seventh of the season, as well as registering his first assist, while a clean sheet and assist from Trippier made it a bumper day for managers who backed Newcastle players well.

Injury updates: Saka and Haaland latest

Erling Haaland (£12.2m) did not feature in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Leicester, which was settled by a Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4m) free-kick.

Manager Pep Guardiola said the Norwegian had suffered ankle ligament damage – see our special piece for more details. It will be updated regularly throughout the week.

Arsenal’s Saka assisted the opening goal in Arsenal’s match, however he was forced off with a leg injury after 27 minutes.

Manager Mikel Arteta told BBC Sport after the game: “He had to come off, he wasn’t comfortable, he had a really bad kick in the first ball and he couldn’t continue so let’s see how he is.”

Arteta was later asked about whether the injury would threaten Saka’s participation at the World Cup, to which he replied: “Hopefully not.”

Stats Watch

Mitrovic off-target

Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.9m) took a league-leading ten shots against Everton – but just one was on target.

It meant the Serbian’s BPS was plunged into minus figures, at minus seven, as bad as Diego Costa’s. The £5.5m Wolves striker was sent off for a headbutt in his side’s match against Brentford.

Mitrovic has taken the most shots of anyone in the league this season (56). But he falls behind Haaland and Harry Kane (£11.6m) when it comes to shots on target (22). Thirteen of those shots registered as big chances, a tally he ranks fifth for.

Trossard and Almiron continue their good form

Leandro Trossard (£6.9m) and Almiron continue to flourish, with both scoring their seventh goals of the season at the weekend.

Almiron has just two fewer points than De Bruyne and is the second-highest scoring midfielder in the game, with 79 points.

Trossard is behind only Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) among midfielders for shots in the box (30) so far, while Almiron lies fourth with 23.

The Belgian’s seven goals have come from nine big chances, while Paraguayan Almiron has had six.

Almiron has outperformed his xG by a greater margin than Trossard. His xG of 4.26 is lower than Trossard’s 5.66. Again, Trossard is second among midfielders in this regard, behind four goal Salah who has underperformed his 5.95 xG.

Brighton rely more heavily on Trossard than Newcastle lean on Almiron, with Trossard’s goal involvement percentage (%GI) 47% to Almiron’s 33%.

FPL yellow cards: Who is close to a one-match ban?

Players who receive five yellow cards in their sides’ first 19 games have to serve a one-match ban.

A two-match ban follows for those who pick up ten bookings by their 32 game.

Five players have already served a one-match ban – James Maddison (£8.2m), Anthony Gordon (£5.4m), Joao Palhinha (£5.0m), Scott McTominay (£4.9m) and Ruben Neves (£5.5m).

Yellow cards for Bobby De Cordova-Reid (£5.5m), Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m), Ivan Toney (£7.4m) and Joelinton (£5.9m) in FPL Gameweek 14 put them all on five yellows, so they will miss FPL Gameweek 15.

Fergi’s Green Arrow podcast Gameweek 14 punt: The results

Now it’s time for a little light-hearted content.

Viewers of the Hub’s Green Arrow podcast will know that each week this season, host Fergi is naming one low-owned player who he thinks will return in FPL.

If he’s wrong, he’ll be adding £10 to a pot to be donated to charity.

Fergi has a habit of being ahead of his time. For example, he tipped Almiron in the early stages of the season – but before he went on his hot goalscoring streak.

This week’s punt Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) was the latest to blank, with Everton drawing 0-0 with Fulham.

Which Premier League player is the best at FPL?

The FPL Bot website tracks a group of verified Premier League players’ fantasy teams.

Adam Forshaw still leads the way, with his 836 points giving him an overall rank of 151k.

Mohamed Elneny, who took a massive 56 point hit in Gameweek 2, continues his resurgence. He triple captained Haaland in Gameweek 13 for a 39 pointer to move to 10th in the list. He now sits eighth after a 77 point gameweek. What could have been without the massive hit…

Who is winning FPL?

The Republic of Ireland’s Peter Lougheed leads the way on 959 points after an 86 point gameweek, which featured hauls for his captain De Bruyne, Almiron, Trippier and Jesus, among others.

FPL Insights

The early stages of the FPL season usually see those who have played their chips early rise to the top.

As the season progresses, those who have saved their chips tend to overtake them, meaning the early leaderboards are not the most representative.

But who is doing the best having saved their chips?

Well, we have the answer, thanks to the Hub’s new FPL Insights section of our gameweek review.

At the start of Gameweek 14, Youssef Frichi was ranked 32nd having used no chips at all.
