Top FPL performers: The stats
Now we’ll take a look at some top fives, covering off some key Opta stats and information.
Hub members can check out the Opta data for themselves in our toolbox.
Expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA)
xG and xA are explained in our simple guide to Opta stats, but in a nutshell they are popular metrics for fantasy managers to judge who’s overperforming and who’s underperforming.
Erling Haaland (£12.2m) for example has scored 18 goals from an xG of 12.3. That doesn’t mean he’s going to stop scoring and he shouldn’t be in your Gameweek 17 team – some players are very clinical and consistently outperform their xG – but it does provide an indication of how he’s done against his benchmark.

Shots
Haaland’s 18 goals is six better than that of Kane – but the duo have had the same amount of shots on target so far this season.
Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), who has six goals to his name, still manages to make the top five for shots on target – tied with three others – despite being way down the goalscoring charts in joint 11th.
When it comes to shots in the box – where you’d expect the majority of goals to be scored – Haaland is top with 49, one more than Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m). Kane (43) and Salah (39) complete the top five.
Shooting from outside the box meanwhile is led by Kevin De Bruyne (£12.6m) on 25, two more than Ruben Neves (£5.5m) and three more than Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m).
Creativity
As seen above, top of the assists chart is De Bruyne. City’s Belgian playmaker has 10 to his name, three ahead of Bukayo Saka (£8.0m)
Jesus and Bernardo Silva (£6.9m) each have six, with four players including Andreas Pereira (£4.6m) and Dejan Kulusevski (£8.0m) on five.
Opta defines a key pass as ‘the final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball having an attempt at goal without scoring’.
And this is again De Bruyne’s domain. He is way in front of the pack on 47 – 12 more than Pereira on 35.
He also leads for big chances created, a big chance being where a player should ‘reasonably be expected to score’. De Bruyne has 14, with Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m) second on eight.
Four players, including Haaland, are tied on seven.
Value
The final table looks at the top five best-value players. The points per million statistic sees a players’ overall FPL points divided by their price.
