Gameweek 10 FPL Differentials

The Defender Differential – Ruben Dias £5.5m, 2.0% owned

One of the biggest fixture swings so far this season is the one Manchester City are starting from Gameweek 10. Having played Liverpool and Tottenham in Gameweeks 8 and 9, Manchester City now ranks first on the Hub’s Fixture Ticker for the next five Gameweeks. This includes home fixtures against Burnley, Fulham and West Brom who are currently three of the bottom four teams in the Premier League and have scored 19 goals from 26 games so far this season averaging just 0.73 goals per game. This run comes with away fixtures against Manchester United and Southampton who have been mixed in front of goal so far this season. With this good run of fixtures for Manchester City over the next five fixtures, there is a strong chance for several clean sheets and so choosing one of their more favourably priced defenders could help fantasy managers rise up the ranks.

Of the two Manchester City defenders that are priced at under £6.0m in Cancelo and Ruben Dias, Dias has been chosen as the differential, although both offer strong options for the forthcoming fixtures. There are two main reasons for this, firstly  Mendy and Zinchenko are returning to training and with the congestion of fixtures in both the Champions League and Premier League, there is a chance Cancelo does not start every game. The other factor is the teams they are facing; four of the teams are in the top eight teams for Headed Chances Conceded in the last five Gameweeks and Dias managed two shots on target including one big chance against Tottenham who ranks first on this list. With this, there is a chance that Dias gets more chances over the next five Gameweeks to score with a headed chance and so

The Midfielder Differential – James Maddison – £7.0m, 2.2% owned

Another team embarking on a strong run of fixtures over the next five fixtures is Leicester City. Having played Liverpool in Gameweek 9, Leicester now rank third-highest for attacking fixture difficulty on the Hub’s Fixture Ticker. These fixtures are especially favourable over the next three matches with Fulham, Sheffield United and Brighton followed by Everton and Tottenham in Gameweeks 13 and 14. The next three opponents are currently 16th, 18th and 20th in the Premier League. Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) has been one of the most talked-about players in recent weeks, however, some of the other Leicester midfielders could provide strong differential alternatives to the English Striker.

Another option that could offer a strong differential is Harvey Barnes (£6.9m), however, the opponents that Leicester face could make Maddison a better option. Three of the next five opponents for Leicester rank amongst the top 5 most chances conceded from set-pieces and so with Maddison on the majority of corners and free kicks for Leicester, there could be a chance that the English midfielder can capitalise on the weakness of these three teams. In addition, although Maddison has been returning from injury and now looks to be back to full fitness, he has still averaged 6.0 points per 90 minutes compared to 4.47 for Barnes which indicates if Maddison can get back to the level of minutes and chances he was creating last season, he could be a great differential over the coming weeks.

Last Five Gameweeks – Chances Conceded from Set Pieces

The Forward Differential – Michail Antonio – £6.2m, 2.1% owned

A third team that has seen a fixture change recently is West Ham. In the first eight Gameweeks of the season, West Ham had the most difficult run of fixtures, however, West Ham have now played two easier matches in Gameweeks 8 and 9 and picked up six points. However, in these matches, they have managed to score just two goals and so Moyes and West Ham will be looking forward to having their last season’s top goal scorer Antonio back in the side. The easier run of fixtures does not stop there as West Ham face Aston Villa, Leeds and Crystal Palace in the next three Gameweeks as well as matches against Manchester United. This could be a good run to get Antonio back to full confidence in front of goal quickly.

Although West Ham had one of the hardest opening runs of fixtures this season, Antonio still managed 4.50 points per game before his injury including goals against Arsenal, Manchester City and Leicester in his first six games. In the second half of the 2019/20 season, Antonio had the second-highest points per start out of all of the forwards in the game according to our OPTA stats tool , only behind Martial who is priced at £8.7m. As well as this, Antonio is the main goal threat for West Ham as Antonio was involved in 48% of West Ham’s goals during his 14 starts in the second half of the season. With the strong run of fixtures that West Ham have coming up, Antonio could get back to the goal-scoring form Antonio saw at the end of the last season and the beginning of this one.
