Who is the best FPL Gameweek 11 captain? Our resident FPL captaincy expert Chris Tan takes a close look at the fixtures, poll and stats breakdown before concluding on his best pick for the armband.

FPL Gameweek 10 Recap

The challengers – Chelsea and Spurs played out a stalemate and neither has been particularly impressive on the attack recently. However, both are stealthily racking up clean sheets (CS).

The elite – Liverpool picked up another injury and were lucky to come away with a point against Brighton. Some might argue that the last penalty was a tad fortuitous, however they did miss a penalty earlier in the game and enjoyed more chances. Are City back? Pep roulette never went away with possibly only De Bruyne (£11.7m) safe these days. However, they picked up another CS and were back to their free scoring ways. It could simply be what always happens against Burnley, but if it continues against Fulham then we can be a little more certain.

Fernandes (£10.9m) is an enigma. He can score from open play, he will get a lot of penalties and he has a knack of picking up FPL points from all avenues. His assist was basically a deflected shot. The only surprise was that he didn’t get any bonus points. With so much uncertainty this season, he’s a strong candidate for someone you can auto-captain each week.

Who to target – it’s increasingly looking like Sheffield United are the whipping boys. I think Burnley will be alright, they just tend to roll against City. Both West Brom and Fulham are showing fight now and it's getting harder to target weak opposition.

How have we done to date?

FPL Gameweek 11 Captain - Our Success

Vardy (£10.2m) got a paltry assist in a very underwhelming performance.

Salah (£12.2m) was unlucky not to return more, with a narrowly missed attempt and a disallowed goal. He was absolutely fuming when he was brought off early too.

Both Fernandes (£10.9m) and De Bruyne (£11.7m) did us proud this week. As a De Bruyne captainer it was bitter sweet though, as it could have been so much more.

FPL Gameweek 11 Captain - The Fixtures

***Hot off the press*** Aston Villa v Newcastle is postponed due to COVID. However, I have left the content in just in case the game is rearranged for mid-week. Be aware that the deadline may still be on Friday despite there being no fixture now.

FPL Gameweek 11 Captain - Past Performance

  • Vardy (£10.2m) – scored away at Bramall Lane last season.
  • Mane (£12.1m) – certainly enjoys playing against Wolves at home, scoring a brace and a goal in the two previous games there. Will the 2,000 home fans be singing his name again?
  • Kane (£10.9m) – has an exceptionally consistent record against Arsenal, however he’s only ever scored more than one against them and that was in 14/15.

The records of the other candidates aren’t worth discussing.
