FPL Gameweek 30 Recap

The first Gameweek after an international break is always a bit crazy.

The Challengers – Manchester United look to have cemented their top four place, but Leicester has several teams on their heels and five teams are battling for that fourth spot. That means that the aforementioned two, West Ham, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Everton will be pushing hard until the end. When constructing your squad, at this stage of the season, it’s always good to fill it players from teams with something to play for.

The Elite – Man City are 14 points clear now and in a few more games it will be mathematically impossible to catch them. Their schedule is so heavy and once the league is won their priorities will be the cups. Rotation will be rife, but there could be some potential beneficiaries in the league that are eager to make a statement.

The Premiums – City were dominant against Leicester and De Bruyne (£11.9m) came close, but he didn’t return and that’s become an all to common occurrence this season. Fernandes (£11.6m) got an underwhelming five points and no bonus points from an assist, whereas Pogba (£7.6m) got maximum bonus from his, which adds weight to the argument that he’s kryptonite for Bruno. Salah (£12.4m) got back on track, but also didn’t pick up any bonus points. Someone that did get bonus points was Kane (£11.7m) with his seventh double digit haul of the season and he’s surely a lock for the last eight weeks.

Who to target – Sheffield United are dead and buried but the remaining sides at the bottom are scrapping it out now, as demonstrated by West Brom against Chelsea. Fulham look to be slipping at the worst possible time and Newcastle always look vulnerable although they could have their two main men back now.

How have we done to date?

FPL Gameweek 31 Captain - Our Performance

Kane (£11.7m) was the sensible choice this week and he came good. I was right about Spurs’ patchy away record, however Kane’s on such good form that he can do it on his own at the moment. There were some decent alternatives, unlucky for anyone that took a punt. Once again, the top scorer of the week was a midfielder, although there were some excellent returns across all positions in a very high scoring week.

There was an absolute goal fest, but this was when penalties were being awarded every game and that’s all calmed down now. I wouldn’t expect Jorginho (£4.7m) to get another brace. Sterling (£11.3m) might score again (if he gets the chance) given his lack of minutes against Dortmund. Returning heroes Wilson (£6.5m) and Saint-Maximin (£5.1m) got 16 and 12 points respectively and could save Newcastle from the drop. Neto (£5.7m) scored and a lot will be considering him for the wildcard to exploit the fixture run (despite the inconsistency) of Wolves. Kane (£11.7m) and Son (£9.4m) destroyed united after Martial was sent off returning 16 and 18 points, respectively. Watkins (£6.6m) scored a hat trick and ‘will he or won’t he’ Grealish (£7.5m) got an amazing five attacking returns (24 points).

FPL Gameweek 31 Captain - Player Record

  • I haven’t included any Manchester City players, as they’ve only played Leeds once in the league recently with a goal from Sterling (£11.3m) and an assist from Torres (£6.9m).
  • Salah (£12.4m) has only played Villa at home once where he recorded an assist.
  • Fernandes (£11.1m) has scored in both games against Spurs and probably could have got more, but he was brought off at half time when the game looked to be over in the reverse fixture.

The records of the other candidates aren’t worth discussing.
