FPL Gameweek 34 player tips. @RichP_FPL uses FPL points as a metric to update us on the team and progress he’s made for the ‘Using FPL Points as a Metric’!
Today we will look at my Gameweek 34 team ‘Using FPL Points as a Metric’! It was ranked 340k before the wildcard in Gameweek 31 with a goal of finishing in the top 100k. It is now up to 169k so the dream is well and truly on!
Armed with the fixture tickers for each position, we will look at the data provided from the metric as well as Hub OPTA data and to try and help us identify transfer targets for our team. As ever, you will see tables for Fantasy Points both For and Against – Green is good and red is bad in both tables.
Green indicates a team is either scoring lots of FPL Points at this position or is conceding lots of FPL Points to this position. The below tables give you totals for and against, tables of points split into home and away games and also home and away on a Points Per Game (PPG) basis.
After bringing in Timothy Castagne (£5.8m) and handing him the armband, the team got 54 points to move up to 169k. As it stands, we’re 29 points off the target of top 100k, so hopefully we can keep pushing on!
This week we have two free transfers and £0.3m in the bank. Prior to team news and press conferences, the team is currently set up like this:
Alexandre Lacazette (£8.4m) is a concern for me, as is Bernd Leno (£5.0m) after his howler against Everton. I may hold onto him another week to see if that costs him going forward. Let’s look through each position to try and identify any transfers in!
As we can see here, most Goalkeepers have mixed schedules. Those that don’t, such as Leno, are now potentially a rotation risk. If I were to move Leno on, I can’t afford someone one like Emi Martinez (£5.4m) so even though they do have a game in hand, I’d have to miss out on him unless I downgrade elsewhere. Having Fraser Forster (£4m) as back up is also a concern, but I’ll give it one more week to see if Leno regains his spot.
Despite a 4-0 loss to Burnley in Gameweek 33, I’m going to keep faith in Conor Coady (£5.0m) for his next two fixtures at least. He’s decent bench cover, and I’m generally happy with my defensive back line, so won’t be using a transfer on one this week. I do like the look of the Liverpool fixtures from Gameweek 35, but a double up on them, considering the way they are playing, is out of the question right now.
There has been a lot of talk surrounding two of my players here: Bruno Fernandes (£11.5m) and Diogo Jota (£7.1m), after some poor performances recently. Jota owners can maybe count themselves unlucky after he recorded 4 shots (3 in the box) and 2 on target vs Newcastle but didn’t come away with a goal. If you can, I’d hold him through this game as Liverpool then play three of the six teams giving up the most FPL Points to Midfielders in their next four games.
I’m not against moving Fernandes on however. Jessie Lingard (£6.7m) has a good fixture this week and has been in exceptional form, so he’s someone I could consider. I could even move up to Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) if I downgrade elsewhere, as part of a Jota/Salah double up. There is a bit of a fixture swing in 36 looking at the tickers, so Fernandes may live to fight another day.
As mentioned above, Lacazette is a worry. If he’s fit to play, I’ll keep him, but if not, he’s got to go. Chris Wood (£6.3m) could be a good option as a man in form. Even before his hat trick and assist vs Wolves, he was only behind Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.2) for all shots metrics between Gameweeks 26-32. Burnley play three of the six teams giving up the most FPL Points to opposition forwards in their remaining games.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.5m) or Richarlison (£7.8m) could also be considered given their game in hand, but picking the right one is always tricky. I’d probably still go for Calvert-Lewin as he appears to have reverted back to the central striker role, with Richarlison out wide again. I’d then look to ship them out in Gameweek 38 for someone with a favourable fixture.
Well there we have it, lots to ponder ahead of the deadline. I hope you’ve found this interesting and would love to hear your thoughts on it! Drop me a follow @RichP_FPL. Below, you’ll see that I’ve dropped in the tables of the above data split into Home and Away matches, both overall and on a Points Per Game basis, if you want to do more of a deep dive into the data. Cheers!
