Manchester United have sacked their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

The news broke on Sunday after Manchester United were defeated 4-1 by Watford on Saturday, which was the final straw.

There’s been speculation about his future at the club for several weeks, with home defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City in the last month.

They’ve slumped to seventh in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Who will replace Ole Gunnar Solskjear as Manchester United manager?

Manchester United have announced that Michael Carrick will take charge as interim manager while a replacement is found. There’s potential that he could be made the manager full time.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the role in the press, but at present he remains in charge at Leicester City. It wouldn’t be the easiest of switches for the Foxes boss.

More recent speculation has seen Zinedine Zidane linked with the role, and he’s the current bookies favourite. He’s been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid in the summer.

Will Manchester United assets become fantasy options again?

A change of tenure at Manchester a United could see a new manager bounce: we’ve seen a similar picture at other Premier League clubs this month.

The sacking of Solskjær comes at a good time in fantasy terms: once the Red Devils get their fixture with Chelsea out of the way in Gameweek 13, they have a kind run of fixtures.

It’s a very appealing schedule as we head into the congested phase of the season. They don’t face a team above them in the Premier League table until late January.

Who should we be targeting for our transfers?

There’s two obvious targets for our fantasy teams: Bruno Fernandes (£11.7m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.4m). The big question will be which one to bring on board.

Ronaldo carries the more obvious goal threat with Bruno Fernandes having the assist potential. I would wait until Gameweek 14 before bringing either in.

One big question we need answering is who will be on spot-kick duties: we believed Fernandes to be on penalties under Solskjær but he’s missed his last one in the Premier League.

We will be waiting for some better defensive performance before jumping on board. David De Gea (£5.0m) could be an option for our goalkeeper slot, with defender expectations high right now given the performance of full-backs this campaign.
