Rasmus Hojlund has signed for Manchester United in a reported £72m deal &#8211; but is he a good option in FPL and other fantasy formats?

Regardless of how good he could be, fantasy fans will have to wait before selecting him in their teams. United revealed on Saturday (August 5) that he had a &#8216;small issue&#8217; which could keep him out for a few weeks.

<h2>Rasmus Hojlund: The history</h2>
Hojlund made his first senior footballing appearance for FC Copenhagen, who he had earlier joined as a youth player, in 2020.
Making his debut aged 17, it was on the European stage where he got his first goals.
He scored three in the 2021/22 Europa Conference League qualifying stages, adding two goals when Copenhagen made it through.
But the youngster was far from a key figure in the side, playing <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rasmus-hojlund/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/610442/plus/0?saison=&amp;verein=190&amp;liga=&amp;wettbewerb=&amp;pos=&amp;trainer_id=">295 league minutes</a> over 15 appearances.
He was sold to Sturm Graz in January 2022, where he scored 12 in 21 games for the Bundesliga club in all competitions.
This breakthrough period was enough to convince Serie A&#8217;s Atalanta to come calling just seven months later.
A season in Italy brought a further 10 goals in 34 matches and a move to Erik ten Hag&#8217;s Manchester United.
His reported £72m fee is a huge jump on the approximate £14.5m paid by Atalanta just a year ago.
<h3>International career</h3>
Hojlund exploded onto the international stage with a hat-trick against Finland in his first start for Denmark
He has played a total of six international games, scoring six goals.

<h2>Rasmus Hojlund: FPL prospects</h2>
United failed to live up to their potential last season, with their 58 goals way below their expected goals (xG) tally of 72.87.
Finding a reliable goalscorer was therefore one of ten Hag&#8217;s priorities.
Hojlund scored nine Serie A goals, similar to his xG of 9.5, according to <a href="https://fbref.com/en/players/491a433d/Rasmus-Hojlund#all_stats_standard">FBref.com</a> data.
On the face of it, he may not seem like the prolific talent ten Hag is looking for &#8211; his overall xG was only good enough to rank 13th.
But that only came from 20 starts, with Hojlund playing just over 1,800 minutes.
His non-penalty xG per 90 of 0.47 meanwhile was much more favourable &#8211; ranking fifth best among players who spent at least 900 minutes on the pitch.

And while he has plenty of room for improvement in various areas, the Tifo tactical analysis below highlights how his technical abilities should appeal to ten Hag.

Hojlund was paraded at Old Trafford before United&#8217;s <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/fpl-pre-season-results-guide">pre-season friendly</a> against Lens.
Ten Hag told the club&#8217;s website what his new signing would bring to the team:
<blockquote>“He is really a front man, very direct to the goal. A very good presser, a physical presence and I think in the balance of this squad we needed that.
“Alongside Rashford, [he is] another player who is direct and can score goals and that is all in his mind – he wants to score goals.”</blockquote>
Many new faces to the Premier League take time to adapt &#8211; and it is often worth monitoring how they fare before taking the plunge in FPL.
But if Hojlund does start well, it would not only heighten his appeal but that of his teammates too.
Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) for example had the highest expected assists (xA) in the league last season &#8211; 18.1 &#8211; but managed only nine actual assists.
His first appearance could be a few weeks away though, given he picked up a &#8216;small issue&#8217; before joining United.
The Reds confirmed this could delay his debut for a few weeks, so Hojlund is not an option for Gameweek 1.

<h2>Rasmus Hojlund: Sky, Telegraph and Dream Team stats</h2>
Sky awards bonus points for certain levels of successful passes, tackles, shots and saves.
Attacking players rarely reach the levels required for passing bonus, however shots and occasionally tackle bonuses are within reach.
Telegraph likewise awards bonus for tackles, however this is only for midfielders.
Dream Team&#8217;s new <a href="https://www.fantasyfootballhub.co.uk/how-to-play-dream-team-fantasy-football-2">scoring system</a> sees players score a point for each shot on target.
Hojlund managed 1.7 shots per game in Serie A, with an average of 0.9 on target.
His goalscoring form will, like in FPL, dictate how attractive an option he is in these formats.
And likewise, it may be a case of watching and waiting once he makes first start before taking a chance on United&#8217;s new striker.
