Gameweek 18 Review
It feels as though it’s all becoming a bit chaotic. Games being put on at two days notice (Spurs v Fulham), games being moved (Fulham vs Chelsea) going from Friday 15th to Saturday 16th January. Everton v Aston Villa moving from 16th to 17th January and then getting postponed anyway. Games being postponed with Southampton vs Leeds on 20th January and Aston Villa vs Everton on January 17th both gone. Then the rearrangement of Aston Villa vs Newcastle on 23rd January - a single game day. Follow me with all that?
It’s very hard to plan ahead. I did consider selling both Emi Martinez and Jack Grealish, especially with Grealish one yellow card away from a one match ban and even more so with Villa looking set to play just five games until the overhaul. My only worry was that at short notice the Premier League would try and squeeze in a Villa game either on FA Cup weekend 23/24th January or another date. That would cause a single game day and I just didn’t want to find myself scrambling around to make a plan to bring in a Villa player. It’s not ideal trying to second guess what will happen.
As I had thought the game was scheduled for the 23rd so I’m glad I kept some Villa coverage. I just have to hope that in one team that Jack Grealish doesn’t get a yellow card against Man City and find himself suspended for the Newcastle game.
It’s certainly not plain sailing this year. Whoever wins is going to have a lot of luck on their side. I mean if you held Harry Kane your numbers came up. It was looking like Spurs would lose a fixture with the away trip to Villa in doubt and then they get handed a plum home game v Fulham. I know he didn’t get a couple of goals but still.
Anyway that’s enough about all of that. It was a pretty good Gameweek 18 for most, especially those who loaded up on Manchester City players. In 24 hours there was over 10,000 transfers made just on City assets as Ederson, Cancelo, Stones, De Bruyne, Foden and Rodri were brought in en masse and they instantly delivered with a clean sheet against Brighton. City’s fixtures until the overhaul look great and if they can go on a run of clean sheets it will really benefit owners.
Arsenal kept a clean sheet to delight those that either held or brought in Leno or Rob Holding. Those that already owned Tierney can feel hard done by as he missed out through injury. Aubameyang and Lacazette failed to deliver - I have been saying that Aubameyang just hasn’t been at it. I would have preferred Lacazette over the two but Rob Holding was my captain so I was over the moon to see him and Luiz just knocking it back and forth to each other.
I scored 76 points and now find myself on 1615 points which is just 12 points off the top 100 overall. This is where I’m thinking my transfer count will see me making some inroads into the top 100 over the comings weeks and months.
