Sky Fantasy Football Gameweek 23 Preview

With just eight captaincy days until the overhaul I’m just trying to keep my team on lockdown until then.

That’s all being well and no selection surprises with the only concern being that Dennis who I own doesn’t start v Norwich next Friday.

You could - if you still have injured players bring in a really low owned player and dead end them until the overhaul.

I’m not going to do it myself but if you still have Salah and have all the captaincies covered you could make a move for Chris Wood (£8.6m). If you fancy Newcastle’s new signing to do well against Watford and then Leeds before the overhaul then he could be a real differential.

With only three goals in 17 starts he hasn’t exactly been on fire this season but surely if Newcastle are to stay up he’s going to be the one to get the goals.

The reason I don’t mind the dead end move is that it’s only one transfer as you’ll keep him until the overhaul and remove him then. I personally won't be bringing in Wood, that's just an example.

Friday 14th January

This week starts with Brighton v Crystal Palace. Conor Gallagher at 87.7% owned will be the most popular captain.

If I didn’t own anyone I would skip the night. I own Gallagher so obviously I’m hoping for a return.

Saturday 15th January

Saturday is a bit trickier. Manchester City face Chelsea in the early kick off so if you're going for Joao Cancelo you can see if he’s starting first. Cancelo at 97.2% is now the highest owned player in the Sky game.

If you made the move for Calvert-Lewin (9.5% owned) then you’d had some bad luck. From the missed penalty and a -1 score to the next game being postponed is really unfortunate. Hopefully owners can be rewarded as Everton travel to bottom team Norwich.

If you still need Watford cover then Josh King (8.6%) or Emmanuel Dennis (27.6%) could be options. I’m worried about Dennis though after his recent knock and perhaps some behind the scenes issues about his non participation in the African Cup of Nations.

Just remember if you want a Watford player you're really after the captaincy on Friday 21st January so any move now could result in an injury or benching for the actual game you need them for.

As mentioned I already have Dennis so I’m just keeping everything crossed that he starts against Norwich. I’m not even too concerned if he isn’t fit for this weekend’s Newcastle game.

Youri Tielemans and James Maddison could be options as Leicester travel to Burnley. However I had to abort my Salah to Tielemans plan as the game v Everton was postponed in the midweek. So it’s not a move I’m looking to resurrect.

The last game of the day Saturday is Aston Villa v Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo is 90.3% owned and will be a very popular captain.

The only issue is you can’t see the line ups first and there is some talk he has an injury concern so as ever keep an eye out for news Friday afternoon and even check twitter Saturday morning for rumours.

Sunday 16th January

Sunday sees three games with the first being West Ham v Leeds. Jarrod Bowen was the 20 point hero in midweek and now sees his ownership at 76.4% up from 50% pre match.
