Gameweek 13 Review
It was a high scoring week for many with a lot of 100+ scores and that’s without the Aston Villa v Newcastle fixture included with many having Jack Grealish ready to go. A lot of managers in our Hub WhatsApp chat groups are starting to make inroads into the top 1000, 500 and even top 100. This should only increase now as we catch up with the teams that have made a good 20+ transfers already.
This double gameweek kicks off with Leeds v West Ham on Friday night and I only have Stuart Dallas in action. I’m not hopeful of much more than four points but you never know; I can only hope for a clean sheet and bonus of some sort although he’s only achieved bonus in one of Leeds last four fixtures. Still, with his price and ownership considered (41.2% in the top 1000 ) I’m in no desperate need to move him on. I think Patrick Bamford could be a good option as Michail Antonio could have been - but I think he’ll miss out with his latest injury.
Saturday isn’t overly awash with appealing options and it is a hard day to call. The Manchester derby is the main game of the day; do you go for Kevin de Bruyne or Bruno Fernandes? Aston Villa travel to Wolves and after an extended break Jack Grealish could be rearing to go. Chelsea face Everton in the 8pm kick off; will Dominic Calvert-Lewin again be amongst the goals or could you opt for the lively Timo Werner (£11.1m)?. He always looks so close to a major haul and has somehow managed to evade it but I think it’s only a matter of time until he delivers. I'll most likely play it safe with de Bruyne.
Sunday is a bit better for different options with four strikers easily being viable captaincy selections. Jamie Vardy v Brighton, Harry Kane v Crystal Palace, Mohamed Salah v Fulham and the now fit Danny Ings already back in the goals facing struggling Sheffield United. The first game of the day is Southampton v Sheffield United so you won’t be able to see the line ups from any other game which is always a worry. I wouldn’t think Harry Kane or Jamie Vardy would be rested but there is always the worry and especially so with Liverpool and Mohamed Salah playing 90 minutes in a dead rubber Champions League game midweek was an odd one.
The second set of fixtures continues on Tuesday with Manchester City v West Brom being the most likely for a points haul. The only problem is that we won’t see the line up as Wolves v Chelsea is the 6pm kick off. So as much as I’d love to go with Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling - not seeing the line up is a concern.
On Wednesday there is a top of the table clash at Anfield as Liverpool host Spurs, but as mentioned previously I really don’t like to captain a player in a tough game if I can help it. Jamie Vardy could appeal v Everton but if not then Salah or Kane will have to suffice.
The Gameweek concludes on Thursday as Aston Villa face Burnley and Manchester United travel to Sheffield United. Bruno Fernandes will be a popular captain and I think Grealish could be a good pick also. If you don’t have Fernandes then Thursday is a great opportunity to bring him in after your existing players have already played. If you bring him in for Harry Kane it’s a 3-1 over Spurs who face just Leicester in the time United play Sheffield United, Leeds and Leicester. The way Kane is going this season though, it would be risky to not have him for even one game.
Hopefully it will be a monster week and with six captaincy days we may break the 200 points barrier in a week, although that would likely mean every captain would have to deliver.
