Gameweek 9 Review

It feels like time to assess our teams again with yet another international break disrupting the play. I’m pretty happy with my start. I’m 1291st with 768 points, just 69 points off 100th place. The leaderboard is really congested so you may worry you're 5,000th or so but that’s 720 points which is only points 50 behind me. That’s a captain haul away. As always a few points more would have been nice but I think that’s always the case and I’m happy with the set up of my team on the whole. Obviously single or two match gamedays have been thrown up that I need to make a decision on who I can bring in and if it is worth a transfer. Is it worth trying to cover tricky game days of one or two let's say 'undesirable teams' or is it wise to just skip it?  Again it has felt a bit stop and start with trying to make plans as we waited for the next batch of televised games to be set in stone. Ian Parrin’s predicted TV schedule was almost spot on so I’ll again be going with that for Decembers fixtures to try and preempt various outcomes. I don’t think anyone can touch Ian for the fixture scheduling and I suggest the Premier League get Ian on board. That way we may get more than two or three weeks at a time! The toughest two days to cover is the first Monday and first Friday night games.

Monday 23 November

17:30 Burnley v Crystal Palace 20:00 Wolves v Southampton

Friday 27 November

20:00 Crystal Palace v Newcastle One team features on both nights so it makes bringing in a Crystal Palace player a no-brainier in my opinion. You can take pretty much any player you like out apart from a Wolves, Burnley, Southampton or Newcastle player and you’ll effectively have a 4-0 over the rest. It’s only two games they’ll have over the rest ( a 2-0 ) but as both games are captaincy requirements it’s a 4-0. And they don’t come about often.  If you already own Wilfred Zaha, brilliant, you’ve just saved a transfer. Similarly if you own Guaita this could be his time to shine. Clean sheets vs Burnley and Newcastle is the stuff of dreams and could net you 40+ points. If you think Zaha will only get a couple of two pointers you could give both match days a swerve but it only takes an assist or goal in either to make it a worthwhile move in my opinion.

Ten Highest Point Scorers Gameweek 9

Fernandes , B £10.9M 19

Chilwell , B £9M 15
Watkins , O £8.6M 14
Armstrong , S £7.1M 13
Silva , T £9.2M 12
Pope , N £6.7M 11
Kante , N £8.1M 11

Top Ten Overall Point Scorers

Kane , H £11.7M 96
Vardy , J £10.8M 77
Heung-min , S £10.1M 72
Salah , M £12M 72
Bamford , P £8.2M 70

Calvert-Lewin , D £9.3M 69
Fernandes , B £10.9M 66
Zaha , W £8.9M 61
Zouma , K £7.8M 60

Six strikers make up the current top ten, with just one defender. I do think however we are going to start seeing the emergence of some more defenders making their way into the list. Ben Chilwell is on 59 points for the season, so just one point out of the top ten and he didn’t even play in the first three games of the season. Other defenders I think to start climbing up with be Gabriel of Arsenal, Thiago Silva and Aymeric Laporte. All three are great for passing bonus - bonus table below further down article.

Man of the Match Awards Gameweek 9

Alisson £8M
Areola , A £6.5M
Maguire , H £9.5M
Fofana , W £6.1M
Lallana , A £7.5M
Barkley , R £8M
Armstrong , S £7.1M
Ziyech , H £9.4M
Eze , E £7M
Kane , H £11.7M
Harry Kane bagged another man of the match award this week to take his tally to four. He leads Vardy on three and a host of players on two. I’m still struggling to come to terms with Bruno Fernandes not being awarded MOTM v Everton despite his two goals and assist.

Bonus Beneficiaries

So rather than go through every bonus point this week I’ll again use the total bonus table. This is really beginning to take shape now of the regular bonus achievers.
