The Weekly Digest GW23

So as we’ve had a bit of a break following the start of the third round of the FA Cup, it feels a bit too long after GW21 to summarise the events of  the matches from December 29th through to January 3rd. So instead of listing all the bonus and MOTM info from these games, I’ll just bring us all up to date with MOTM, passing and tackle bonus totals to date.

Also my stats guy is unable to get the top transfers in/out and captain % picked as their system is having a reboot. However I do have the transfers remaining stats and we hope to be back in business next week with all the stats.

Man Of The Match Awards

Starting with the MOTM awards, not much change to this over the festive period. Ryan Fraser collected his fourth award and is now joint second along with two more players. I think it says a lot about this season that the likes of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero have just one award, and Mo Salah has only three.

Bonus Points

Next onto my favorite stats, passing and tackle bonus. Here I’ll highlight the current top ten for bonus points. Not many surprises in my opinion, especially for passing.

Passing Bonus Top 10

PlayerPoints
Jorginho48
Rudiger48
Laporte47
Xhaka45
Luiz42
van Dijk36
Stones36
Fernandinho30
Alderweireld30
Azpilicueta28

Its the defenders that are the main performers for me. The tier two passing bonus combined with clean sheets makes it no surprise that the highest points scorers this season are the premium defenders. Jorginho I like a lot but without goals or assists he’s a pretty unexciting option. Xhaka again is doing well for passing bonus but I’m not sure at the price if he’s a valid option.

Tackle Bonus Top 10

PlayerPoints
Ndidi21
Wan-Bissaka20
Ricardo Pereira18
Billing18
Gueye15
Azpilicueta13
Milivojevic13
Fernandinho12
Capoue12
Lemina11

Whilst there is good points for tackle bonus, it’s no where close to the consistency we are seeing for passing bonus. Wan-Bissaka is one of the most consistent and at 6.6m is a great price. It’s just a pity Palace don’t keep many clean sheets or that he can’t add any assists or passing bonus. But still for a 6.6m defender you would be more than happy. Ndidi I like but at 7.8m and without passing bonus or goals or assists he’s not really a player I’m looking at with his price tag.

The transfers continue to dwindle. Bearing in mind the next overhaul is in five weeks I’d probably be looking at limiting transfer usage and waiting until the overhaul to revamp your side. As always if your around the figures quoted I think that’s about right. Any more then that’s a bonus and should allow you to move up the leaderboard. Any less – like me then you need to be a bit more conservative with your transfers.

Transfer Plans

I think I’ll be taking out Mohamed Salah for Harry Kane on Sunday.

There is also a nice Man City 3-1 over Liverpool to get a couple of extra games out of a city assist that might be worth taking.

I’m not overly happy with my team. I’ve used too many transfers, I’ve not got Paul Pogba who looks like a must own right now. And in recent weeks I’ve missed a Salah hat-trick and Pogba back to back braces.

I will be sticking with this side now until the overhaul and then will have to come up with a master plan to try and get myself into the top 100 for the run in. It’s going to be tough but I like a test. I just have to hope I don’t fall too far off the pace in the coming weeks.

Captaincy Plan

Saturday – Salah

Sunday – Richarlison/Kane

Monday – Sterling/Sane
