Best Liverpool FPL players

Trent Alexander-Arnold

  • Price: £7.9m
  • Teams selected by: 12.4%
  • Squawka FPL Score: 77%

Alexander-Arnold costs £1.4m more than Andrew Robertson but he’s delivered just four more points this season.

The majority of Alexander-Arnold’s 16 points came in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa, thanks to an assist, clean sheet and three bonus points.

And that’s his edge over Robertson. While Robertson has 12 points, he hasn’t had any assists or bonus points.

With Alexander-Arnold playing slightly further up the pitch and flexing his creative muscles, the Englishman is outperforming Robertson in all key attacking metrics. If you have the funds, he’s the better pick.

One note of caution before investing in Alexander-Arnold is his fitness. He picked up a thigh problem before the international break, so keep an eye on Jurgen Klopp’s press conference ahead of the FPL Gameweek 5 deadline.

Luis Diaz

  • Price: £7.7m
  • Teams selected by: 12.7%
  • Squawka FPL Score: 48%

If you have the funds, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is the pick of the Liverpool midfield options.

But for those on a budget, Diaz or Diogo Jota (£7.7m) are the other players to look at.

Diaz has been favoured on the left by Jurgen Klopp, starting all four games for Liverpool. He’s had scoring returns in two of those games, too, with goals against Chelsea and Bournemouth – the former also delivering a bonus point.

Jota, meanwhile, has been directly involved in more goals, with two goals and one assist this season. His goal and assist against Bournemouth helped the Portuguese forward to a 12 point haul against Bournemouth, while he also set Darwin Nunez (£7.4m) up against Newcastle.

When you compare the two, they’re extremely similar players in terms of output. Diaz however has the edge for shots on target.

Then there’s the fact Jota hasn’t started either of the last two games and seems more vulnerable to rotation with Nunez and Cody Gakpo (£7.3m).

Darwin Nunez

  • Price: 7.4m
  • Teams selected by %: 11.4
  • Squawka FPL Score: 68%

Liverpool have one of the slimmest forward rosters in FPL.

But if you’re happy with your midfield and want to capitalise on the Reds’ run with a forward, the choice is clear.

Gakpo has been favoured by Klopp but is yet to have an attacking return this season, with a total of six points across his four games (three starts).

The Dutchman also has a very low expected goals (xG) tally, with all three shots coming in one game against Bournemouth – none were on target.

Nunez on the other hand has been a reliable option from the bench. Although there were blanks in the first two gameweeks, he got 11 points from his 13 minutes against Newcastle thanks to two goals and three bonus points.

He then started against Aston Villa and got two assists in 64 minutes, for eight points.

Even without the attacking returns, this season so far Nunez is testing himself more in front of goal, with the relatively little playing time he has received.

This makes him a gamble but that could pay off in a big way.
