The best Leeds United FPL players 2022/23

Leeds United narrowly avoided relegation in a dramatic final day of the 2021/22 Premier League season – but who are the best Leeds FPL players for 2022/23?

We explore the top three assets in this article – and unfortunately for fantasy managers, it does not include Raphinha.

The Brazilian winger secured his dream move to Barcelona after a summer of speculation where fans of both Arsenal and Chelsea were teased with the prospect of securing his signature.

You can find the best FPL players for all Premier League teams in our definitive guide. This list will be updated as new pieces are added.

How Leeds United performed in the 2021/22 Premier League season

Final-day heroics aside, it was a season to forget for Leeds United fans.

So bad was the Whites’ form that come February, the previously untouchable Marcelo Bielsa received his marching orders…or should that be Marsching orders?

For it was American Jesse Marsch who was tasked with rescuing the sinking ship and reviving Leeds’ fortunes with 12 games to spare.

And on the last day of the season, a 2-1 win against Brentford secured their Premier League status at Burnley’s expense.

Those three points proved crucial, as Leeds had a woeful goal difference.

The bottom of the 2021/22 Premier League table

The Yorkshire side conceded 79 goals over the course of the season, leading to a goal difference of -37.

Only basement team Norwich City conceded more goals. But had it not been for Marsch coming in, Leeds may have trumped the Canaries.

Under Bielsa, Leeds conceded 60 goals in 26 games – an average of 2.31 goals per game.

They fared better under Marsch, conceding 19 goals in 12 matches – an average of 1.58 goals per game.

Fans will therefore be hoping for a less leaky Leeds side in 2022/23.

The best Leeds United FPL players 2022/23: Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m)

Raphinha was comfortably Leeds’ standout FPL asset but his move to Barcelona makes the job of us content creators slightly more challenging – at least for the ones drawing the straw of assessing Leeds.

Where can we find a ‘clever, explosive player’ in the Brazilian’s mould now?

Step forward Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra (£6.5m) – a rare case this season of a player from the Dutch Eredivisie not signing for Manchester United.

That quote above was from Marsch himself, when he built up his new singing’s potential while out in Australia for Leeds’ pre-season tour.

And plenty of potential does Sinisterra possess. He managed 12 goals and seven assists for Feyenoord in 29 league games last season, registering an average of 2.6 shots and two key passes per game.

The usual caveats around players converting their Dutch-league form to the Premier League apply here.

But we can take plenty of encouragement from his performances in Europe.

Sinisterra scored six goals and assisted four in Feyenoord’s run to the Europa Conference League final.

He was named – alongside Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£5.0m) and ex-teammate and new Manchester United signing Tyrell Malacia (£4.5m) – in the Europa Conference League Team of the Season.

And he took the Europa Conference League Young Player of the Season crown for himself, too.

We would recommend a watching brief when it comes to Sinisterra, rather than picking him from the off, but we think he clearly has the potential to shine.

As a left-winger, he could be competing for game time with Jack Harrison (£6.0), if the Englishman doesn’t make a move to Newcastle United as rumoured.

If Harrison stays, it may take a little time to work out how Marsch arranges his new-look side.

The best Leeds United players 2022/23: Patrick Bamford (£7.5m)

From the unknowns to the known – and Patrick Bamford (£7.5m).

The striker managed just 557 Premier League minutes in an injury hit 2021/22 season, scoring two goals and registering two assists.

It was a far cry from the 17 goals and 11 assists he managed under Bielsa in the previous season.

But this shows the English forward’s potential at the highest level.

If he can replicate anything like that form this season, he will be the standout Leeds pick once again.

Whether he can or not will depend on whether he can remain fit. He is one to monitor in pre-season.

The best Leeds FPL players 2022/23: Illan Meslier

Conceding 79 goals last season might not make Illan Meslier (£4.5m) the most enticing of fantasy picks.

But as we have highlighted, Leeds’ love of conceding goals tailed off under their new boss.

Meslier has previous as a viable FPL goalkeeper. He scored 154 FPL points in 2020/21, making 140 saves along the way and racking up 20 bonus points.

Unsurprisingly, given Leeds’ defensive record, he topped the charts for saves last season with 143.

Losing defensive shield Kalvin Phillips (£5.0m) to Manchester City is a potential blow to Leeds’ future defensive prospects.

But they have shored up their central midfield with the signings of Tyler Adams (£5.0m) and Marc Roca (£5.0m) as well as signing a new right-back in Rasmus Kristensen (£5.0m).

A new left-back could be needed, given the injuries to Junior Firpo (£4.5m) and Stuart Dallas (£5.0m).

If Leeds fare better than last season at the back, with no real standout £4.5m goalkeeper in FPL thus far, Meslier could be the one to pick.
